Pomona, College Confidential, compromising and expectant students

Additionally, prospective students of all grade levels have discussed Pomona on collegeconfidential.com, a website created to dispel myths about the college admissions process and connect students to counselors and each other.

The article, however, reports another substantial growth in applications and a 16% admit rate:</p>

Admissions letters were sent out March 30 to the many expectant high school seniors who applied regular decision. Pomona’s selectivity increased this year, with an admittance rate of 16 percent, as compared to 19 percent last spring. The college received 5440 applications, 8 percent more than last year.</p>

<p>Several new populations comprise the incoming class. This is the first year that Pomona collaborated with QuestBridge, a national program that strives to increase the number of qualified, low-income students who enter prestigious colleges and universities. Thirty-seven QuestBridge students were admitted as members of the class of 2010. The Posse Foundation, a similar program that began a partnership with Pomona last year, also added to the talent of this year’s applicant pool, with nine of its students admitted. </p>

<p>The racial and geographic diversity of the class resembles past years, albeit with slight increases. One significant change was the record-breaking numbers of admitted African-American students, **compromising about 10.25 percent of the class of 2010. **
