Pomona-HELP!

My mom refuses to believe that CalPoly Pomona is a good IR (international relations) school just because it is not on this list:
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/other-college-majors/307644-best-international-relations-schools.html

Can someone help me find some info on its IR rankings, stories etc… also possible acceptance rates for transfers?

Thanks!

This has nothing to do with their IR program but rather with the school in general-- have you visited the campus?

If you have stronger choices I’d have to agree with your mother.

Your mom is right. Cal Poly Pomona isn’t a good school for both rankings in other majors besides engineering.

Looks like indeed it is this Pomona with the excellent IR program:

http://www.pomona.edu/academics/departments/socialsciences/IR.shtml

Well of course Pomona College is good and highly ranked. It’s CSU Pomona that reaks of horrible rankings.

heehee. Yeah. Cal Poly Pomona = Ag school.

You can probably transfer to CPP with any GPA over 2.8 as well as most CSU’s. If you have anything over a 3.0, you should look elsewhere, and just put it as a backup.
If you don’t a very high GPA, maybe you should look at other CSUs than CPP.
If you do, maybe look into UC’s. Yes, even UCMerced might be better than CPP in IR (if they have one).
Note that most people who transfer to CPP are engineer/architecture/applied science majors.
Plus, there is a big budget problem in CPP, most classes arn’t very available so put that into consideration too.

Overall, CPP is a TECH school, (although also decent at best in AG, Animal science, and Hospitality Management), so other field applicants should avoid.
