How much do poor freshmen year grades weigh in at the top universities (Ivies, Stanford, MIT, etc.)? My grades this year will most likely be a majority of A’s, a few B’s, and one C. I know it isn’t impossible to get into a really good school with a C, but how can I make it possible for me throughout high school? I’m really involved at school with extracurriculars already, and compete on the international stage in terms of things like debate and sports.

Stanford does not look at the freshman year grades and they are the least important for the other universities you listed.

Most students applying to those schools do not have the mix of grades you are reporting. You would be an exception. But most don’t have international level competition level skill in debate and sports so that makes everything different.
