Throughout high school I’ve had high grades mostly A and A-. In my senior year however I did very badly in my English class getting a B- and C in the first two quarters. All my other classes are A though. I applied to selective colleges how much will this hurt my chances of admittance?
Only the admissions officers at the colleges you applied to can answer this.
Your application will be reviewed in its totality so if you don’t get in to a selective college it is unlikely to be solely due to one semester of grades in one class.
Should I emailed my admission officers?
To say what? They will see the grades. Excuses are generally not a good look.
If you suffered a devastating event during that period you might ask your guidance counselor to let the colleges know --that way it will come off more as an independent third party sharing a fact rather than a worried applicant making an excuse.
Senior year work is typically the most advanced of your high school work and hence the closest to what will be expected of you in college. A dip in grades at this point could be a liability. Of course, only an AO at one of your target schools could say for sure.
If there were extenuating circumstances, your GC should be the one to explain.
Many schools make a decision based on 3 years. Others want the mid year.
So the school will see or not see - depending on their timeline.
No need to send a special note.
And no school that admitted you - that I can imagine - will rescind you because of this. If a school hasn’t made a decision, sure they will see it. And you’ll still get accepted or rejected and if it’s the latter, you’ll never know why. You’ll think it was the grade - but truth is - it might not have been.
Anyway, I don’t see anything here to do or be concerned with. Make sure you are providing mid year grades to those who request.
That’s it. Nothing else…no explanations, no nothing.
And no need to worry either - i might add. You will find a great place for you!! A C is a minor speed bump that we all face every day in life.
Best of luck.
