How popular are these scholarships in that how many people actually take these opportunities and apply for them? I’m FROM CA and want to go to one of these and like most I wanna go to a school with completely new people. Whats the likelihood I’ll bump into someone from here?
Someone has said that there are 800 people from CA at UA. However that’s 200 a class. Even with that many it is very unlikely you would know someone. Even if you went to a CA public school it will still be unlikely to bump into anyone. You have no idea how large those schools are do you? You might still get the best aid from a CA public so don’t overlook it.
You likely won’t bump in to people from your HS (unless you decide to hang out with them) even at a UC.

Any state in US is fine and my GPA is 3.85 unweighted. Poor on Extra curriculars SAT is around 1770 (will retake, but let’s just say it’s 1770 for now)

Which scholarship schools are you looking at that your stats qualify for?
Right now, it appears that your M+CR is about a 1180 and I think you need huge merit.
Which schools are you looking at for merit for your stats?
My daughter is attending an OOS flagship. She knew 2 other kids on the entire campus (from Kindergarten, when we lived in a neighboring state). One is in the same sorority and one lived on the 12th floor of her dorm and she lived on the 6th. It is a non-issue, except all the girls she met wanted to know how she knew that cute boy on the 12th floor.
You realize that once you are at college for 6 weeks you’ll know 200 new people, some you’ll like, some you’ll not like. It will be exactly like high school all over again, except with new people. Why in the world would it matter if someone from your high school attends the same college as you do with 15000 students? Even with 2000 students it’s unlikely to be a problem. If you don’t like a person, it is easy enough to ignore him.
I think it is unrealistic to expect a school to give you full tuition and exclude all the people you don’t want from attending also. If you want your own private school (and by that I mean just for you, not public vs private), you’ll have to see where everyone you know is going and then go somewhere else. You won’t be able to set the terms of who they admit or how much you’ll have to pay.
When I was in the first grade, and my brother was in the third grade, we had to go to school for a short time in Florida (we lived in Calif). On the first day of school in Florida, my brother came home and told us that a kid in his class had been in his K class in Calif. Small world.
That said, usually when you go OOS, you really don’t know anyone else at the school. Exceptions do happen and sometimes pals plan on attending the same OOS school, but really it’s just not that typical to go across the country and see people from your old high school.
I will be retaking the SATs; just looking at what opportunities are out there.
Good luck…what M+CR score do you think you can get?
@anionforanion
Well, to win the scholarship I must get a 1400. I didn’t study before the SAT but I’ll be taking practice tests.
