Porn

No! whine Porn is a bunch of nonsense. It has no emotion, feeling, true connection, or morality. And saying that it’s disgusting is soooo true. Anything else you have heard from my kind was obviously out of the mouth of a fundamentalist (someone who interprets the sensations one gets from watching porn literally). clears throat :)

Agreed. :)

I am of this persuasion. Having been personally associated with someone involved in the industry, I can say with conviction that the majority of those working in the field are there not of their own volition but from a noxious combination of circumstance and forced compliance.

From a biological perspective, I find this comment quite surprising. Moreover, surely you don’t truly mean that you can’t understand it, right?

It’s like picking your nose, everyone does it at some point, no one admits to it.

And thus begins the intrusion of rationalism into this previously happy thread.

Do you suggest an inherent conflict?

lucky2010, that is the best explanation that I have heard for it. I doff my cap to you sir!

On this particular College Confidential forum, we try to avoid it.
Well, at least I do.

Porn doesn’t interest me its basically the same thing in every video .

In health class my teacher said that the highest percentage of watchers of porn in my country (New Zealand) were males aged 11~17.
Everyone in my class was like (all girls’ school), “Oh my God really?”
But that is kind of sad that a whole group of 11 year olds watch it :(

^^ So is CSI

I am very aware of that view, though frankly, I think the entire concept is BS. Porn may cause psychological or emotional damage to some people, though it has not yet been conclusively proved. But if no one is being forced to watch porn, then how can we censor it? It’s a private matter as long as no one else is getting hurt.

For that matter, if porn is so awful, why allow violent movies? Surely one cannot censor sex without censoring violence as well, especially when sex, depending on your view, harms no one, while violence is harmful by nature. Actually, this is a pet peeve of mine. Many Christians are strictly against birth control, but apparently, the death penalty is okay. “Thou shalt not kill” is one of the Ten Commandments. “Thou shalt not use a condom” is not.

And so I conclude my mini-rant. Man, that felt good. :)

Please convey that statistic more clearly; I don’t know what you mean by that as well as

.

:)

It’s like picking your butt and sm… HUH? I most certainly did not!

I didn’t expect silverturtle to be supporting porn. That’s irrelevant I guess.

I’m really just commenting because I was surprised to see this thread exist. There’s a good way to check to see if your friends watch smut. I won’t post the link, but basically you send it to them and it checks what links are purple in google search and tells you if they’ve clicked (and therefore watched) porn links. I busted three of my friends this way. It’s good for a laugh.

That’s fine. That’s your opinion. I’m just making sure that you are aware of others’ outlooks.

Evidence please?

Again, because some people view it as an issue that affects all of society.

[quote]
It’s a private matter as long as no one else is getting hurt.

See above – one could claim that every single individual in a society that has such a blatant medium for objectifying people/normalizing sex/what have you is being hurt. You just need to understand that some people absolutely reject the idea of “privacy” with regards to issues like this.

So you’re arguing that something someone feels is wrong should be allowed because something ELSE that is potentially bad is ALSO allowed? Somehow, I’m not convinced.

And there is a difference between fake violence and real sex.

And many are not. It’s also not that simple – there is an issue of whether someone forfeits the right to live in society. It’s much more complicated than you are making it out. Whether the added complexity is justified or not is another issue.

Only a fundamentalist would be swayed by this logic.

Poorly worded of me. I was trying to say “some people say it does, but it hasn’t been conclusively proven” blah blah blah…

Anyway, I could discuss this with you back and forth, but now that I’ve released my pent-up lust for debate (I miss LD! Next September is too far away :(), I’m not as interested, haha.

Two things though:

Clearly. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye: It was my attempt at snark.

I understand their views. As an strong advocate of personal liberties (I have some libertarian-leanings), I very much disagree with them, however. My rant wasn’t directed at you, personally, I just felt like I needed to get it all out, lol. :)

Where did I do this?

Haha, I guess you actually didn’t, it just seemed that way for a second. Just forget that part of my comment, because it doesn’t really matter anyway.

“Porn may cause psychological or emotional damage to some people, though it has not yet been conclusively proved.”

A research paper I read once said that people who watch porn may make better decisions when it comes to sex, though it has not yet been conclusively proved.
