Portable GPS yet again

I know this has been discussed before, and I have indeed read (at least some of) the old threads! Just wondering if anyone has anything to add before I purchase a portable GPS. It is very important that it is easy to transfer from car to car and that is is not too bulky to carry if we have to remove it when parked at times.

The one that has been highly recommended to me is:

Garmin StreetPilot 2720 Traffic-Ready Portable GPS Navigator

I’d appreciate any thoughts as to why I should or should not go with this particular one, or if there is another that I should highly consider.

Also, would I need to buy any additional accessories with the unit?

Thanks in advance.

We have the older Garmin and the Nuvi- the Nuvi is smaller and does Bluetooth wireless phone. My H sinc-ed the two and my phone book and voice activated dialing comes up on the Nuvi- great for the long drives when you should be watching the road.

Thanks. What is the difference is between the Nuvi and the Street Pilot?

We bought a Magellan 4000 yesterday at Circuit City. It comes with all the accessories including AC adapter for $400. We liked it better than the Garmin because the screen size is larger and it is loaded with the AAA maps/guides. Our s-i-l has a Madge (as she calls it) and loves it so we were pre-disposed to buy one of those, even if my dh used Garmins when he was a private pilot. We are taking two long car trips this summer into unknown territory (the wilds of New York and Philly) so decided to take the plunge.

Oh, forgot to add…

On many units, the traffic router is an extra monthly fee. A good place to compare units is either Amazon or epinons.com.

I looked it up quickly on Amazon- the street pilot looks clunkier in the photo but comes with a remote (you’re in the car, it’s on the dash but it does have one…) I like the Nuvi. I’d go on some site that will let you compare the two.

I have a Garmin Street Pilot c330-I’m sure it’s already outdated but I love it! I do recommend you buy the little carrying case. I leave the GPS in the carrying case when it’s not in use.
You will love having a GPS!

Thanks for the feedback. I appreciate it. One person told me that the adapter to plug in the Garmin is very large and it interferes with putting the car into Park. The Garmin vs. the Magellan seems to be like Honda vs. Toyota … both great but just a personal matter of opinion. I’m on the fence …

We’ve had two Garmins, taken it in many rentals as well as our own car and have never had problems with a charger interfering with a gear shift. Isn’t there a GPS website that will let you compare them side by side?
