Porting your cell phone-charges from the old company?

I ported my family plan to a new carrier. I timed it, as instructed, to move the numbers to coincide with the billing cycle
I ported on the first day of the new cycle & I told the store and the people on the phone that I was leaving the carrier
The bill came for that month (Sept) and showed normal billing as it was generated before we ported
The October bill arrived, no credit, I have spoken to the executive office at AT&T twice today and both people went to great lengths to explain that I owe that money as I had usage.

The bill is showing usage Aug 3-Sep 3, the bill is charging for “monthly charges” Sep 3-Oct 3

Has anyone have any luck with any magic words or phrases to get them to understand I should not be paying “monthly charges” for September? They all agree they bill in advance, but I am not getting through to them after several hours on the phone. I left AT&T after some issues with roaming charges and difficulty getting agreed upon credit, I have been fighting this issue since May 2015 and it is still not resolved. T-Mobile seems great, so far!

I am about ready to just take the hit on my credit rating as a matter of principle!

Your cycle ran through the 3rd of the month? You called on Sept 3rd?

Are you getting caught by this? “After your Service Commitment ends and you are on a month-to-month Agreement, you may terminate your Agreement at any time with 30 days notice…”

Our recent experience in moving the girls off my service (Vzw, hate 'em) to another carrier, was to let the new carrier port, which is direct. I know you can’t do that now.

They have not said anything about the 30 day thing, but the guy in the store told me to be sure to tell the rep that I DID tell the people in the store and also on the phone that I would be porting in September. I did not know at the time to make sure they documented it.

The executive team has not even mentioned that, they just keep saying I had service and usage in August for the Sep 3 bill so I should pay it. And then in the same paragraph they say they advance bill; and they don’t seem to “get it”

Actually T-Mobile ported us from ATT on the 3rd when I called to effect it, as instructed by the store. Is that what you mean by direct?

AT&T is a b:$&/! My husband frequently has to go to battle with them. Call again. Ask to speak to the rep’s manager. Be firm.

I am going to try their social media team now.

TMobile tried that with me when I ported. I filed an online complaint againt them with the FCC, it was easy to find with google and took a minute to fill out. Two weeks later TMobile credited me the month as a “courtesy.”

I had a problem with TMobile years ago where they charged me for termination fee when they shouldn’t have. I did take a hit on my credit rating because it took months to resolve. The only way I resolved it was to contact the better business bureau. It was interesting, as soon as I reported them, the matter was resolved very quickly - charges taken off and they wrote to the credit bureaus to clear my credit. It maybe worth your while to contact BBB.

They should prorate the charges, not charge for the whole month.

That’s why I like prepaid service.

I wonder if I should do both the FCC & the BBB?

BBB worked for me.
