We are picking someone up at the Portland airport on a Friday night. I think the plane lands around 7 pm. Not sure where we will be before then. We will be in Florence on Thursday night but not sure when we will head to Portland. Our hotel is in the NW area. I would think we will have traffic.
Should we plan on having dinner somewhere out near the airport after we pick her up? Suggestions. This will be our only dinner in Portland. Looking for semi casual. No chain, local. Can be vegetarian. Would prefer not Indian since I think that is what is being served at the family event on Sat night.
I know ideally the person should take public transportation but we are dealing with extended family and the elders are insisting this person be picked up.

Salty’s Seafood Grill is on the Columbia about 10 minutes from the airport. A bit pricy, though.

Meriwether’s is fairly near the Portland OR airport and we had several nice meals there. It’s best if you make advanced reservations. They have “farm to table” and much of their food is locally sourced. We saw a wide range of attire–jeans to very dressy. We also dined at a Japanese restaurant near the area (stayed at the Silver Cloud Hotel across the street from Meriwether’s).

I’m sure folks who know the area better will have more ideas.

Should have added need a place with options beyond seafood.

Visited in April. I liked le Bistro Montage.

Here’s the website and dinner menu for Meriwethers. They serve a fairly wide variety of food that could work well.
