Portland Oregon -- your favorite vineyards/wineries

We’re meeting our West Coast sons for a vacation in Portland OR in September and would love to know what your favorite vineyards are to visit nearby. My husband and I are big fans of Willamette Valley pinot noirs.

Ken Wight Cellars and Scott Paul are my husband favorites. I like Annie Amie and Lemelson

Ponzi has the prettiest tasting room, imho, also serves snacks. St. Innocent is lovely and their Pinot rose is my DH’s summer favorite (he just bought a case). Domaine Serene has the best view and is my second favorite Pinot. Absolute favorite is Panther Creek which has a nothing tasting room on the main drag in Dundee, but the wine is incredible.

thread hijack- be sure to take time for Powell’s Bookstore while in Portland.

^^ Yes, thanks. Already on the to-do list!

I love Lemelson, but I think it is only open Thanksgiving weekend. Maybe other days by appt.
Elk Cove has been around forever, makes great PN and has a nice tasting room. It was reasonably close to my daughter’s university, so we visited often.
Sinean, Argyle, Sokol Blosser. Ponzi’s wine bar has tastings of many wines, not just their own, so one-stop shopping. Their wine is very good, too.

You always pay for tastings, so don’t be caught unawares. The fees at some of the wineries are high - check their websites before you go.

Most wineries will let you split one tasting. The fees are to prevent folks from boozing up on free vino and driving.

I have never been to the vineyard, but we love King Estate pinot Gris.

BB - true. H and I often split one tasting, I get the red and he takes the white. If you’re not expecting to pay $15-20, it can be a shocker. (My SIL will gripe because she doesn’t like to pay to try something new, so will stand around looking irritated.)

Marchesi Vineyards in Hood River (about an hour from Portland) is well worth the trip. Their Primitivo is my favorite, and last year, the 2014 vintage was completely sold out by the end of August, so grab a few bottles if you like it. I was just in Portland a couple of weeks ago, and made a point to get out to Marchesi and stock up on the 2015 Primitivo - delicious!

We enjoyed tastings at Erath and Adelsheim when visiting friends in Newberg.

Archery Summit in Dayton. Great pinot. Interesting tour–winery is gravity focused. Only Oregon winery with natural caves.
