Hi everyone! So I’m currently looking
at colleges, and the urban honors
program at portland state looks very
interesting. However, I know that psu
has a very low grad rate and isn’t
ranked. Does anyone have more
details on this program?
With all due respect, sounds like an oxymoron.
Check out the program @boolaHI . It seems like there might be some good points to it
It also seems to be modeled somewhat on Reed’s curriculum:
Thanks erinsdad!
Boolahi: It’s fine, I’m looking for all opinions about psu. Do you have any particular issues/ experiences with the school?
Right now I’m just deciding whether to apply there as a safety school, but I don’t want to waste $60 on a school I have no intention of attending.
@rounnd2 Please share any info you find out, and if you travel to visit, please share your impressions. PSU is home to one of only 4 Russian flagships in the entire country. We have been given negative feedback about the school (commuter school with older population students and not a good place for a really strong freshman student). We live on the opposite side of the country and visiting is a financial burden. I would love to hear feedback.
So, yes it’s basically a commuter school (and thus attendant atmosphere of not really being collegiate), while some programs are solid (e.g. Urban Planning), most are just average or below. Overcrowded classes and limited faculty involvement are persistent and systemic situations. I love Portland, but would be fairly ambivalent about sending any of my daughters there as a freshman. Now, if you are a 29 year old trying to go back to school, it serves it’s purpose…
The Russian program is one of a handful with the objective of getting students to a superior level of fluency; therefore, it must be solid.
Mom2aphysicsgeek: Thanks for the input! I don’t live in OR either, so the chances of visiting are fairly low.
BoolaHi: I’m considering the community development program. Do you know if that program is well respected?
