I will DM you

Thank you, he really is! He has not submitted his application yet. We only just had the family meeting, and he will work with the Posse trainers to get his application ready to submit mid-November.

Thank you! Is DAP3 kind of similar to DAP1 in the sense of being structured around group activities?

A bit like that, though you are doing it in front of the college representatives and Posse staff, rather than volunteers. It’s also a lot more intense and personal. The most important part is, as before your kid should be their best self, just as they were for the previous interviews. Your kid should also remember that they are being selected to be part of a team which is supposed to be supportive.

Reddit has a wonderful Posse Wiki which describes the DAP3 really well from the point of view of a Scholar (I usually help with DAP 1 and with things like resume writing). It’s in the r/PosseScholars subreddit under “Wiki”. All the advice is on point.

Ultimately, you kid should remember that all the finalists are great, and all have what it takes to be a Posse Scholar. However, Posse Staff are looking for the best group of 10, so it’s about the best configuration of ten individuals that they can put together, and it’s very often about chemistry between the finalists.

Also, if your kid is not selected as a Posse Scholar, their folder will be added to the Posse Access database, and will likely be contacted by Posse partner colleges and asked to apply to those colleges RD. Their Posse file will be passed on to the college, and all the good things that the Posse Staff have written about your kid when they decided to select him as a semi finalists and as a finalist will be in that folder.

Thank you!

S25 made it! He is going to be a Posse Scholar! I so appreciate having had this thread to clarify things about this long and sometimes somewhat confusing process for this parent.

WOOOOHOOOOO!!!

That is absolutely amazing. The Posse scholarship is likely the most selective merit scholarship out there. First of all, fewer than 5% of all nominees are selected as scholars, but to be a nominee the kids are already being selected from a much larger pool. Most high schools can only send 10 nominees, so being nominated is already a selective process.

I volunteer as an interviewer for DAP 1, and the nominees are already an amazing pool - these are the kids whose counselors and school leadership consider to be the students with the highest leadership potential in the school. The Scholars the the kids who stood out in this amazing crowd.

Moreover, the selection process is set up figure out who these nominees are, not just what they have done.

In short, while I’m certain that you’ve always known what an exceptional young man you have at home, it’s always nice when other people verify this!

May I ask what college he will be attending?

PS. While the weekly meetings will be a bit of a hassle, the Scholars really gain a lot with them. The meetings can be pretty intense, but the Posse mentors are really good at running these things. Many are Posse alumni.

PPS. One of the benefits of being a Posse scholar or alumna/us is that he can nominate one or two students every year, starting next year.

Some #PosseLove, of course.
