Posse Scholarship

Hey anyone know if your common app in anyway will affect your chance being selected during the finalist round?

Do you mean will it affect your chance to be selected as a finalist? No, since you are selected by Posse people, and they have not yet seen your common app.

However, if you’re asking whether your common app is considered by the admissions people from the college who are part of the last interview, the answer is most likely yes. You are submitting it a month or so before the last interview, and the college people are reading it. One of the college people commented on reading my daughter’s essay when my daughter arrived at the beginning of the year.

However, my somewhat educated guess is that they’re using your application to determine fit in the particular Posse that they’re putting together, rather than to determine your fit and qualifications for that particular college. The fact that you were chosen as a finalist indicates that you are good enough to be accepted to the college with which you were paired, and that you are a good fit for that college.

However, in the last interview they’re trying to put together a group of 10 people who will get along, be supportive of each other, and are likely looking for a balance or personalities and strengths. A good metaphor is from poker. If you’re looking to put together a straight flush in poker, you’re not going to keep an king or an ace from another suit.

I know of at least one person who was not chosen for Posse, but was accepted RD to the college with which she was paired. Moreover, Posse Access means that Posse thinks that finalists are excellent, and that Posse recommends them for any of their partner colleges.

Thank you so much for your reply!
