OMG ALLERGY SEASON IS THE WORST!! I’m trying to write this well so hopefully I make sense… I apologize if there are any errors.
So… where should I start? Lol.
I am currently a freshman in college and close to finishing the 2nd semester (spring semester). HOWEVER, I AM DOING HORRIBLE. I never even thought about going to community college but I kinda screwed up HS so here I am. I also wanted to save money which is also another reason why I ended up here. I really really really (x100) want to transfer to UCI. It is my 3rd dream school. I am trying to go into pharmacy so I chose biology for my major. For the 1st semester I only took 2 classes due to the lack of spaces for the class I needed to take. I bearly got a 1.8(?) GPA for that fall semester. Idk somewhere around there. I am taking 4 classes this semester. Except maybe 1 class I feel like I am screwing up the rest. I am doing horrible on the quizzes and tests. Like I am getting 50%s-60%s. I am retaking a class from the fall semester because I got a D for one of the classes. The classes I am currently taking are also really difficult. I am behind one class before I transfer. I need to take general and organic chem (a & b), I am taking the introductory chem right now. I need 60 semester credits to transfer. I do not think I will make it… I really want to disappear… I am struggling so much… I really want to transfer to UCI but who will accept me? I don’t even think cal states will accept me… please help… will I be able to transfer? You can be blunt honest with me. You can also be harsh as well. Anything that will make me feel better. I really need to push through and get to UCI. During my time in UCI I really want to study abroad as well so yeah but that’s in the future.
https://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/infocenter/transfers-major Use this to consult your chances by looking at statistics from other majors. You will need to really bump up your effort which might mean retaking every class you failed because Irvine would automatically reject you by those numbers.
Regarding Allergies: Doctor’s have gotten a LOT better at dealing with this over the past 30 years or so. You should be able to get very good relief from allergies. If you have significant allergies, keep your bedroom very clean. Never open your bedroom window (if you need air conditioning get an air conditioner). Air filters help. Shower right before going to bed. There are good antihistamines, try different ones to see which works best. Also, there are very good nasal sprays that you can use, but many of them (such as nasalcrom and nasal steroids) don’t do much until you have been using them regularly for at least a week. Note that there are several nasal sterorids that do pretty much the same thing and you should only use one, but nasalcrom does something completely different and can be used and can help even if you are also using a nasal steroid. Allergy specialists should be able to help with all of this.
Where are you now? Are you in community college now? You have to understand why you are having trouble and you need to get your grades up.
You stated “kinda screwed up HS so here I am”. To me this looks like you don’t have the background to handle the courses that you are currently taking. Many classes in sciences and most classes in mathematics rely very strongly on other courses that you took in the past (such as in high school). If you did badly in the past, then you are going the intellectual equivalent of building a high rise tower on top of a mushy or unstable foundation. You have to fix the foundation first.
Also, expect college to be different than high school, even community college. You will need to keep up with the work. Do ALL of the reading on time. Keep ahead on homework. It will help if you do your homework as soon as it is assigned, so that you pick up a bit more of the material and have a slightly easier time understanding the next class. Always show up at class on time or early and always pay attention. Seek out additional help from your professors, TA’s, or whomever is available. You might need to take fewer courses at a time in order to catch up before you take a full load. Don’t be in a hurry to transfer out to UCI. Be in a hurry to find a class that you can do very well in, then find two classes, and so on.
You need to take this seriously, figure out what is wrong, and turn it around. Understand that it is likely to take a while, possibly a couple of years, to turn it around. You have to turn it around and be getting A’s and B’s, before you even think about transferring or taking a semester abroad.
