I’m in high school right now, but I’m looking for colleges with really good Enlgish programs within the US. I’d prefer a college close to my family (I live in Colorado) but I’m open to suggestions of any kind. Anyone have a good suggestion?

hendrix college

The following information could help others help you narrow down your options:
- GPA and class rank
- test scores
- course rigor
- intended major or career
- extracurricular activities, interests and achievements
- estimated Expected Family Contribution ([FinAid | Calculators | Quick EFC Calculator Results](<a href=“Your Guide for College Financial Aid - Finaid”>Your Guide for College Financial Aid - Finaid))
- budget (what your family actually is able and willing to pay)
- preferences for school size, location, atmosphere, etc.

If you use a search engine you can find colleges based on distance to home. Try College Navigator [College Navigator - National Center for Education Statistics](College Navigator - National Center for Education Statistics)

Here’s a list of 17 colleges & universities in Colorado, listed in order of 75th percentile SAT M + CR scores:

The first 5 cover a wide range of types (a private LAC, a small private university, a large state university, a military academy, and a public engineering school). Costs (before aid) range from free (USAF academy) to over $50K (UofD and Colorado College).

If you’re interested in an English writing program, Knox College in Illinois has one of the best. Creative Writing is the most popular major there.

Thanks for your suggestion, spdf. Where does Knox stand in its religious beliefs?

In Colorado, I really like Colorado College. It goes on the block plan. Instead of semesters, trimesters, quarters, 4-1-4, etc… Colorado College lets you have only one class at a team and every 3.5 weeks you take a new class. I think it’s a brilliant school. My aunt went there (hint: she makes 600K now) haha but of course that’s not typical. Good luck :)

Glarien, where are you coming from with that question?
Are you seeking (or are you trying to avoid) a particular religious orientation?

If you’re a girl, I’d throw Scripps College out there.
