"Possible Essay Topics"

If a college’s essay section for the supplemental essay says “Possible Essay Topics,” does that mean that you HAVE to use them (e.g. Recommended = Required) or does that literally mean that they are merely possible?

oooooooooor not…

Well, it depends on the wording. If it’s like “Write about an experience that changed you,” it’s basically required. But if it’s like “A nature trail, a trip,” you don’t need to. It depends on how loose the wording is. Yeah. :)

Like, on the website for a college it says:

Possible Essay Topics:
xyz
abc
fgj

Kind of thing, but it doesn’t say if you can work beyond the “possible” topics.

Oh, I get what you mean. As in, by possible, do they mean that you have to pick one of the possible essay topics or are they just suggestions? Is that what you mean?

Hmm… I understand how that’s confusing. If I were you, I would send a quick e-mail to the college or try to call them. If I had to guess, I’d pick one of theirs, just to be safe, but I recommend contacting them and asking them, because it really is ambiguous, what they mean.

thanks! (10 char)

nope, Lily. You idiot. Write whatever the hell you want.
That’s what I’d do.

Angel… *. I’m gonna write to them to find out 'cuz I have interesting essays (as you know) and I’d feel stupid if I could have sent them in and I didn’t, or if I did send them in and they were like, “?”
