What are the possible outcomes of a first time DUI if it is a first offense?

It depends on the state where the offense took place; the age of the defendant and the level of intoxication.

If there were serious bodily injury or death involved from an accident caused by a DUI driver…many years in a state prison would be a likely outcome for a first time DUI offense.

Even a first offense can carry severe penalties in some states, including loss of license, community service, jail time and a large fine. Also-classes and monitoring might be required.

In Virginia as of July 1 first offense DUI requires installation of an ignition interlock device which is not cheap.

In my state, first time with no injuries generally serving 10 days in jail and a fine of around $2k.

If it were my child who did it, my child would be in serious trouble from me. First, no more driving my car, ever. He can wait until he is an adult and can pay for his own. And he would be forced to meet every single person I know whose child died to a drunk driver. He would be forced to read every story I find. He would be forced to hear every single story I know, and can find, about this. Since my children already know people who lost their children to drunk drivers, I would hope they would not try something like this. But if they do, they are on their own legally to fend themselves there. And they will be going through my own personal form of rehab here. And they better never touch a drop of alcohol on my dime once that happens. I don’t care if they drink. I do care if they think their party is worth killing or destroying another person.

It depends upon the country where you are living and the alcohol level.
