Possible Scam Alert - SAT Testing Center?

I just received a phone call from the “SAT Testing Center”. They told me that they were aware that I had a teenager who was taking the PSAT or SAT and that they had my child’s study materials ready to be shipped. They said that my teenager had applied for these items by “checking off the box” and wanted to know if they had my authorization to go ahead and send these study materials.

When I asked where this information was coming from they said that my teenager had requested it and wanted to know if I had spoken with my teenager.

When I further pressed about where they were calling from, they told me the “SAT Testing Center”. When I pressed further and asked if they got our contact information from the College Board or from our School, they hung up on me.

I spoke with my teenagers and neither one of them know anything about this.

If by chance this is legitimate, they are doing a very poor job of customer service.

Has anyone else received this call? If so, maybe you could shed some light on this issue.

Sounds like heavy-handed marketing from a local test-prep company. If you have the time and date of the call and you are on the Do Not Call List, you can report it there.

You also can drop an email to the school principal and ask who the h*ll the PTA has been selling student names to lately.

I already reported them to do not call registry. I doubt they got it from our PTA (I would have heard about it…) so I wonder where it is coming from.

Am just hopeful that someone who is distracted or doesn’t know any better doesn’t think that they are “supposed” to order these things since their child supposedly filled out paperwork at school.

The DoNotCall registry . . . yeah, right.

IME, that things stopped working about five years ago.

Sorry; I had a Very Bad Day.

Its going to be non-legit.

Real businesses don’t need to buffalo you into buying things, and they don’t hang up when you ask legitimate questions.

I got a robo call that sounded like a real person about a month ago regarding healthcare items for seniors (oxygen therapy or something). Said it was already approved, and all you had to do was say yes…wouldn’t cost anything. I couldn’t believe that it wasn’t real until I realized the person wasn’t responding to my responses.

Pretty annoying.

VH…the do not call registry NEVER worked! We are on it and get no less than five calls per day.

thumper, it did work for us for several years – dramatically reduced, and actually eliminated, those calls. But not in the last two years or so. It’s crazy now.

Got that call today. The woman kept saying ‘your child’ and I asked if she had his other name and if it was aboy or girl. Her response was that for privacy reasons they didn’t know. Asked her to mail me info as I was too busy to deal w her on the phone. Will update if I receive anything.

Reminds me of the calls that grandparents get telling them their grandchild needs money.

In other words, scammy.
