Possible to do fall at another U then go in the spring?

If I was a spring admit to SC, would it be possible to go to another university (I was thinking American U of Paris) for a semester for some gen. ed requirements, then to “transfer” in the spring? Or is this totally not allowed…?
Thanks!

Sure you can

All the CC spring admits should decide on a University to attend together for Fall Semester, make it like a little Trojan village.

what would we do for housing then?

when I came to AUP as a freshman last year, I met a few NYU students who were spending their first year at AUP and then went back to NYU for the rest of undergrad ( I think a couple ended up transferring to AUP though). So I suppose it’s possible but maybe this was different because it was an AUP/NYU deal. Where do you want to go for undergrad?

OH sorry, didn’t read the beginning of your question. Is SC in University of Southern California?

SC is short for USC. Meaning Souther California. Most people just call it that.

^Housing?

Using the [international American university](http://www.aaicu.org/) model that the OP suggests, the housing is available from the University. This [is so](http://www.aup.edu/main/student_life/housing.htm) at [The American University of Paris](http://www.aup.edu/default.htm</a>). The status would be that of a visiting student.

So too at [Richmond - The American International University in London](http://www.richmond.ac.uk/content/admissions/study-abroad-aifs-visiting-students/visiting-students.aspx), where students are accomodated in a neo-Gothic Hogwartian castle.

Finding a residential university in the US upon which a group of proto-Trojans could descend for a semester isn’t so straightforward.

I say you guys all pick a cool Community College in an awesome area. Save some money, live together, and get some of your ge’s out of the way and have a bunch of fun! Once you get to SC the curriculum is going to be a lot more challenging. Look at this as a money saving vacation.

Yes it’s certainly possible to go to another college for 1st semester and withdraw 2nd semester. However, there will likely be spring admits that will be bumped to fall. In fact with this year’s uncertainty of what the yield will be, I suspect USC has offered more spring spots than normal since with the present economic situation, they don’t know what to expect with the yield. If more students will opt for a UC this year due to finances, then more fall places open up for spring admits.
Here’s the thing though. You will have sent your SIR in to that college by May 1st, and have paid the non refundable required registration fee and possibly the housing deposit. Still, small price to pay I think for getting the fall spot at USC.

^^Community College

Santa Barbara Community College students often live in Isla Vista, which is noteworthy for its college atmosphere.

^^^true. SBCC is such a party school though. Like all play and no work. I have a few friends that go there. Visiting them is a blast but I dont know how they get anything done. EVER!

You can do almost anything you want in the fall before starting in the spring (even non-school related things), but if you attend a different university, make sure that all the courses you take will transfer and count toward requirements.

Especially at other 4-year universities, they are not usually set up for this, so they may advise you to take classes that fulfull requirements there, not at USC.

How would this work? You send in your SIR to USC, but how do you matriculate into another university for only the fall semester?

No, you can get a form at the university or college you plan on going to that will show you what classes transfer to SC. I had to do it and its kind of a pain in the ass but its not that hard.

Thanks a ton for all the input… If I am a spring I’d rather spend those few months in Paris, and fulfilling the gen. ed. requirements seems best, too bad there aren’t community colleges in Paris… Or are there?

Hahaha, I don’t even know. If there are I wouldn’t trust that they transfer to American Universities. I would stick with the school you were talking about earlier.

Haha I also totally forgot that while AUP does classes in English, French schools do not. As much as I’d love to do English(??) or calculus, god forbid, in French… No thanks.

Yea, sorry! ahaha, I’d stick to your thing you got going right now. I am pretty jealous that not only are you going to SC but you get to spend Fall in paris. Actually, to be honest, I think I might rather prefer that than a fall admit.

oh I’m not even sure what my status at SC is, this is just theoretical…it’s so funny, because before I was like “accept!!” and now I’m like…“I hope I’m not good enough for fall.”
