Hello,

I am a transfer student currently attending community college and I was wondering if my 3.4 GPA and extracurricular activities would put me in a competitive standing for admission for an applied or econ math major.

I graduated high school two years early, so I never took the SATs and I am involved in student gov and the two honors societies @ school. I also do a lot of community service work and I have my own organization that involves plenty of volunteer work.

With all that I have accomplished so far, do I have a chance of making it in ?

Math/Econ at UCLA is very competitive and the average GPA of applicants for this major is a 3.74. The more important number is the average GPA of admitted applicants which is a tad lower at 3.68. Either way a 3.4 for this particular major is really not competitive at all.

UCLA is a very numbers driven school and, as such, extracurriculars won’t really help you. Some majors have a GPA cutoff, below which they will not even look at the application. If it is important to you to go to UCLA specifically, then you may want to pick a different major or you could spend more time at a CC and try to raise your GPA.

I applied first as an applied math major which has a 3.45 min so I might be able to get looked at for that one.
