possible??

hey everyone, i’m posting this on the boards of all of the following schools, but please answer my question. is it possible to apply to all these simultaneously?

Cornell ED
UChicago EA
SUNY Binghamton EA
SUNY Stonybrook EA
Sophie Davis rolling (i think)

Yes you can. My daughter did exactly what you are doing. It worked out great because she received a guaranteed transfer to Cornell after doing a year at a different college. She went to Stony Brook for one year and now she is at Cornell. She enjoyed Stony Brook, and all her courses transfered. It seems to be a common path for people who apply ED and are deffered. It is also easier to get into Cornell if you apply ED, but be careful if you need financial aid or if you want to go to a different school because of a merit scholarship. You have to go to Cornell if they accept you reguardless.

wow all your daughter’s courses transferred? thats great…usually alot of the credits get lost along the way. which college does she go to…is it one of the statuary ones or private ones? with the schools im applying to, i’m praying i get into cornell…chicago might be a little easier than cornell cuz they dont really look at sats that much (which is my weakness cuz i have a 2000 and i would guess that 2200+ would probly be in the right range)…just like extracurriculars and gpa and that sorta stuff. if i dont get into those 2 i would probably choose sb cuz its like 40 min away from home, besides bing is really in the middle of nowhere (like cornell, but cornell is cornell so its better anyway!) =)

My daughter is in CALS and she applied for the Biology and Society major. She is also taking the premed requirements. What is your major? What school at Cornell are you applying to? Have you visited it? It’s not really in the middle of nowhere - Ithaca is a pretty good sized town and College town is really cool. If you haven’t visited, they have open houses for each college in the fall - my daughter went and spoke with an admissions person while she was there. She also showed alot of interest and she was a really good match for her major and for CALS. She was very strong in math and science but a little weak in the verbal SAT and in her English grades. She had great ECs though and she went to a private high school. I don’t know what helped her the most.

Also have you visited Stony Brook - The campus really looks great with the new Wang Center and all the landscaping they have put in. If your major has anything to do with math or science you can’t go wrong. My daughter really liked it there and for a while she thought about staying there rather than transferring to Cornell. One thing that helped her though was that she had a car. She was commuting for a while and then she moved on campus after she got off the housing waitlist. She also had a job in the SmithHaven Mall so they let her keep her car. There is a lot in the Stony Brook area, but not much within walking distance.

She says the big difference between Stony Brook and Cornell is that people at Cornell really study. They don’t party every night of the week untill 4 am. She had a hard time studying and sleeping sometimes in the dorms at Stony Brook because everyone was always talking and partying in the hallway. You need to have some self discipline.

wow i feel like im in the situation that ur daughter was in. i have a 580 on the verbal section, 700 writing, 720 math. im strong in both math and science and i think my hook would be the intel science research contest. i think i might either apply to CALS or HumanEcology…i’m not sure b/c i’m stuck between nutritional sciences and food science both of which cals offers…but cals is also tougher to get into than HE. i have visited cornell, it was gorgeous and the town and campus was great. but i felt like there was nothing to do off campus. sb was much better than binghamton in my opinion…but too much grass land and the buildings were somewhat spread out, but then again i only got a glimpse of it. my friend just started like a week ago and she’s already been to a bunch of parties. haha so i guess it kinda is a party school. thanks for your input…i really appreciate it!

my gpa is a 2.99 and my sat score is a 1920, u guys think i can get into stony?

you’ll get in trust me. and you’ll definitely get in if you’re not asian.

wantthat-
Your SAT score is good, but your GPA is a little low. You can compensate for a lower GPA if you answer the following questions in your application. Is there a reason for the lower GPA? Do you have a strong area like math or english where you received top grades ? Can you get a great recommendation from a teacher that shows that your GPA is not representative of the work you are capable of? Do you have any specific interests where you have shown dedication and drive? How are your ECs? Has a job helped you in a special way?
