Just wondering…did anyone write the short answer as a modified version of the Sound of Music song? I just want to get the application over with…

P.S. If it’s lame and cliched let me know =)

Just wondering…did anyone write the short answer as a modified version of the Sound of Music song? I just want to get the application over with…

P.S. If it’s lame and cliched let me know =)

Oh god…okay, I’m sure some applicants did that…if only just one of them…wow…

what do you mean?

Somebody I exchanged essays with did that, and it was really good. She got in, by the way.

HA call me dense but i never even thought of that. and since i never thought of it, i think it’s a brilliant idea.

but… should you trust me?

now i get it
sorry

When the dog bites, when the bee stings, when I’m feeling saaaaddd,
I simply remember my fav-or-ite things,
and then I don’t feeEEEeell
soooooo baaaaaad!

I think that’s a sweet idea! I wish I would have thought of it, too. But instead of writing mine about a bunch of my favorite things, I’m just gonna write about my favorite comedian. Mitch Hedberg!

Well people either like mitch or hate him

or think he’s ooookaaayyy.

I just realized how hard it is to make your favorite things rhyme…

Anyone wanna read what I have? You’re gonna laugh at it.

DannonWater,
LOL! That is why I love him…
…and now you. jk

monkeyjoint, I wanna read it!

who is mitch hedberg?

lol. Mitch is a comedian, or was. He died in 2003. He only put out two albums, but he was on Letterman and Comedy Central a few times. He was also in a few episodes of That 70’s Show and he made a movie, but I’m not sure it was ever released.

He had an odd sense of humor, talking about a lot of unnoticed, mediocre things. He had a lot of one liners, like, “Rice is good if you’re really hungry and want 1,000 of something.” Or talking about club sandwiches, or frogs, or Subway.

NOOOO! Absolutely not!

Every single book I’ve read mentioned this one nthing in particular and said NOT to do it. It’s the equivalent of writing a ‘I like school a lot because ____’ essay.

Maybe some people got in on it, but you’re not the first person to think of this and I’m afraid it would be stigmatized because it’s ‘too cliche’.

Hmm…guess I’ll rewrite it then? I hate explaining why I like stuff though; sometimes I just don’t know (or refuse to acknowledge the subconscious messages).

On another note, anyone feel like butchering a whychicago essay? It’s absolutely terrible…

This actually sounds like a really good idea.

My ‘whychicago’ was a narrative. I won’t say anything about it, since it’s not submitted yet, but you don’t just have to say things like ‘I like Brazilian pop music because ______’. You could write a dialogue with a character in a book, or a dream narrative, or anything you please.

Can someone read my whychicago essay? I just need one more editing session and then I’ll be DONE =D

essentman: thank you for mentioning me!!!

I did it. It was alot of fun and reeeeeallly amused me. And for those who are like ‘oooo the admissions book say not to do that’: I think Chicago screws the book.

But you HAVE to make the syllables go together and keep the rhyme scheme and NOT use hardly ANY of the original song (just to prove you can make things original).

I added footnotes to briefly explain what some obscure things were.

I did this because I wanted my favorite things thing to be a mosaic of intellectual stuff versus 90s fluff and other malarkey. PM me if you want to check it out.

There are a bunch of other “list songs” you could do a parody to, though some may be harder than others
AKA “We Didn’t Start The Fire” (Billy Joel) I’m trying to do one of those for my high school- haaard.

Especially if you are into musical theater, it would be fun. It WILL take longer than you think LOL. Good luck!

I had another song parody in my extended essay. That one was pretty sweet too.

Though now I’m a tad annoyed that my “brilliant” idea was thought of before. Just my ego wishing that my adcom remembers my essays lol.

Yea well, my favorite number is 4 billion.

which doesn’t come in handy when gambling.

Come on four billion! Seven, f***. I need more Dice.

4 Billion divided by six… at least.
