Well not really, but I always wonder whether I should’ve reached more, or whether I didn’t think of any colleges that would’ve been a good fit for me. Based on my stats and interests below, where else should I have applied to?

Stats:
SAT Verbal: 640

Applied to the following schools:
UNC (accepted)
UMCP (accepted)
Carnegie Mellon (accepted)
Virginia Tech (accepted)
UVA
UPenn
Johns Hopkins

gonna do either Com Sci or Com Engr major

Wanted to stay on the east coast (I’m in state MD), medium to large school, with lots of spirit and strong athletic programs. Carnegie is up there because I’m being recruited for a sport.

Oh and since I don’t want this to be all about me and more of a discussion. What schools do you regret not applying to and why didn’t you apply the first time around?

Carnegie Mellon for computer science – can’t get any better than that! The only other school on the east coast with equal reputation in CS would be MIT, but it doesn’t have strong athletic programs.

m4dskills,
I like that you have UPenn on your apps list. Great school for eng! I always feel that students should put two reach schools on any list and in that regard I might have added MIT to your list of East Coasters.

You have great choices so don’t sweat it! You’ve done terrific so far and my best advice is to enjoy the fruits of your hard work. Pick a your best fit now and then set your sights on following with a great grad school.

First of all, you have no real reason to worry! You’re INTO some great schools (especially UNC-what a toughie out of state!). As well, you still have some reaches. Regret is completely normal, but you’ll be fine!

I can think of a few schools, like Case Western or Northwestern, that might also fit. But you’re already in 4 schools. UNC is very difficult for OOS. How did you get notification so early?

For UNC? I did early action so I found out Jan. 31st.

Also, as I stated earlier I don’t want to just have this be a personal thread. But more of a discussion thread in which people discuss where they didn’t apply to and regret it.

m4dskillz can you tell us about your ECs? Your SAT score is exactly the same as mine, but I have a high rank as you do and I’ve been discouraged lately from applying to schools like you did.

EDIT: Not really discouraged from applying, but rather being told I most likely wont get in.

I’m pretty much really committed to soccer, am part of my math team, and volunteer w/ special olympics. My recs were ridiculously nice. And for UNC in particular, my essays were stellar and I think that’s what got me in.

post-college graduation here. i probably would have applied to more reaches, i got in every school i applied to. i was so scared that i would have to end up at my safety that i just pretty much applied only to schools where i’m at the 50th percentile.

about college: should have been more involved in clubs, and not be so concerned about grades. a few years after you graduate, no one will care what your gpa was. however the skills you pick up in leadership roles will stick with you.
