Post Bach CLS vs PhD/MS

I am a senior who will graduate this fall with a B.S. in Ecology and Evolutionary biology from UCSC. I currently don’t have the best GPA (around a 2.9), however my GPA for the last two years is higher than my overall GPA (around a 3.1) so I have shown improvement. I have a year of research experience in a molecular genetics lab and I spent a summer volunteering in a Cystic Fibrosis Research Lab. I have participated in multiple poster sessions, and am currently finishing up my senior thesis.
After finishing my degree I was hoping to go to grad school to get a PhD or MS in Human Genetics. However with my GPA, I don’t think I would get into a top tier program, especially since most of the programs I am interested in require a 3.0 minimum GPA.
My original plan was to take some time off and work in a genetics research lab or for a biotech company to get more research experience. However almost every position (decent paying position) I’ve looked into requires a CLS.

So my question is, will getting a CLS help me get into grad school? Are there any people out there who have gotten their CLS and then gone on to get a higher degree later on?
