Post-EA Plans

Well, while I wait and hope for an acceptance at Yale early, I have to plan otherwise as well. As such, I have come to the place that knows me best and I have come to call home on CC for advice. Please let me know your opinions.

Background info for applications:

1.) I am still undecided about exactly where I want to go. I hope that I can find a suitible school that will accept me. This has led me to balance selectivity with preference.

2.) Money may be an issue. While it would be wonderful to get need-based aid, that isn’t likely to happen. I also want to look at colleges that give Merit based aid while still keeping up high standards.

3.) This is a fluid list. My imediate goal is to get January 1st applications decided so I can send off the already writen (from EA) reccomendations. I can then add schools with Jan 10, Jan 15, Feb 1, etc. deadlines.

4.) The list is long. While it may take time and money, this is sooooo important that I will spend significant amounts of time on it. Some schools have relatively little extra work involved.

5.) Stats: 4.0, 1570 SAT, 1/583, good ecs, lots of normal “stuff”, etc.

Schools that I am applying to:
Princeton
Swarthmore
Middlebury
Dartmouth
Brown
Georgetown
Amherst
Whitman

Undecided:

Harvard- I am leaning towards a yes, and this is a January 1st deadline. See my other post a while back. http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?t=11187</a>

Haverford- Liberal arts school that is slightly “easier” to get into.
Tufts- Liberal arts school that is slightly “easier” to get into.
_____These are schools I would love to attend if the app proccess bottoms out at most of the above.

Williams- Haven’t visited. I am reluctant to cross out such an outstanding school without more information.
Pomona/Claremont- Best western LACs. Don’t know what to do

Other Merit Aid schools:

Lafeyette-Both due January 1st, give significant merit aid.
Hamilton-“”____“”
Grinell-
Brandeis-

And others?

So, what do you think? Should I add or take off and non-merit schools on my list (I have a little time to decide Haverford and Tufts (post Jan. 1 deadlines))?

What about other ideas for Merit Aid? Do any of them have a January 1st deadline?

Thanks guys, for putting up with my post-EA scramble.

Might you want to consider Washington U. in St. Louis? With your qualifications you might win one of their full academic scholarships–the only catch being that the scholarship application, which is due January 15, includes quite a few extra essays. (The application to Wash U itself is easy–I believe it’s the Common App with no supplements.)

You really are an outstanding candidate for any or all of the schools on your list, and I’m convinced you’ll have lots of great choices by spring.
