Post your biggest academic screw over stories

with finals rolling around, times are heated. and wow; i think i jus rec’d the biggest fugnnnnn screw over in my life.

Basically my group had a speech to do. I was heavily involved with people’s progress and doing a lot of micromanagement for perfection.

Today was our speech.
I’m the last to talk.

Before our speech started, we had some tech difficulties for about 5 mins. Apparently this is when our speech started – as soon as we were in front of the class; not when we spoke our first line. Which is weird because all my other communication classes begin as soon as the speaker… speaks.

My fugn team members didn’t remember their speeches at all and we were running behind time. Luckily i kept track of the time. Our max time limit is 35 mins so i was just about to speak then the teacher says class is over. Im like WDFFFFFFF, we have 4 mins left to speak and she said no your time started as soon as your group went up…

I lost 75 points. And i’m the only person in that group who invested so much time and dedication for the A only to get fugd over. Now the highest grade i can get is a maybe a low B or C+. My grade was an A before this stupid speech.

^^^^ damn that blows :(

never ever get into a group where you know you will be doing all the work…i look for the nerds…the smart kids that sit up front.

they do their work and i do mine.

stick with nerds.

^ haha you got banned. I wonder why…

i got an A- once

i would tell you but you don’t like me.

Hate. Group. Work. So. Much. Every time the teacher announces “This will be a group project,” a part of me dies die a lot inside. This isn’t the silent “passing away in your sleep” kind of dying either, this is the piercing screams of agony brutal murder kind. Teachers always say that they “acknowledge the free rider problem” but they NEVER do, one person ALWAYS ends up doing most, if not all, of the work because the rest of the group tends to be (a) lazy or (b)stupid (and this isn’t the exclusive “or”). The teacher just smiles and says "“It will balance out in the end.” BUT IT DOESN’T. It ends up about as balanced as an entirely bacon diet. I could go on forever, but I’ll save your eyes the trouble of reading. P.S. Jane I’m curious as well, and I don’t not like you.

yeah group members were randomly selected, :|

and i forgot to mention, i tried to fire one of the group members but i was out voted …AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH. if it wasn’t for my attention to the clock, HELLUHHHHH MORE PPL WOULDVE SUFFERED.dslkdfsljfdsljfdsljslfjkdsaljfdals

lol voting is an option? I remember being stuck in pretty authoritarian idiocracies. There was no voting or way out. It was just “Either work together or get an F.”

yeah sorry kid…you got screwed! maybe email your instructor or try talking to the instructor…who knows maybe they will be sympathetic.

p.s. MrOblivious does this mean you do like me? cuz if you do i can tell you.

Ahahaha yes, I like you. I’m a fan of some of your more eloquent responses, particularly the way you handled the “Transfer students are subpar” thread. But I’d like you even more if you told me what school you were picking =p

lol

i am not sure right now where i am going. everyday i fluctuate.
in my heart i think i know…but then the other option seems more appealing and fun and glamorous.

i’ll pm you why i got banned cuz i like you too.
;)

this aint a love story :B

biggest screw over? would have to be having my car stolen the week before first midterms. I went across the street to grab some lunch and put ALL my school stuffs in my car. I came back 15 mins later and my car was gone…the next few weeks my schoolwork tumbled. I was consumed with finding the ***holes that took my car. my time was spent tracing bouncing checks, pleading with impassionate ‘detectives,’ recovering the vehicle, paying impound fees/damages/loss/repairs, and worrying about if we were going to be robbed at home (address on checks, garage opener taken). I subsequently bombed a couple midterms and missed a lot of class. if you can help it, don’t EVER let this happen to you. take every preventative measure. get tint, a killswitch, club, the whole 9 yards. it was the most miserable experience of my life.

/my biggest screw-over.

I’ve dropped a class after the first day after learning there would be a “partner essay”.

I’m an academic lone wolf!

Group work looks like a bag of hurt most of the time- sorry to read about your miserable experience. Considering that, I’ve been lucky so far to have either chosen the right people to work with, or be randomly assigned w/ people who had their heads out of their asses. I think my day will come eventually…

@janethed0e

You’re underestimating the intelligence of people who sit near the corner of the room where the exits are  Btw, why did you get banned? I’m not sure if I like you…in case you’re asking that to everyone who’s curious, haha.

woah jane got banned? what happened? cursed at the mods for closing the late night thread?

Wow, that sucks. I wasn’t even aware that group work existed in college. I figured the professors knew better. :|

i HATE group work with a passion. A year ago I had a HUGE statistics project that I had to do with a partner. The girl who sat in front of me asked me to be her partner so I said ok, well we started the project, had a few exams in between the due date (she failed them) and two weeks before the semester ends the b i t c h drops the class. SHE DROPPED THE CLASS! So I was left doing eeeverything by myself. **** group work, seriously.

Jane you got banned from where? cc?

:/ Why’d you get banned Jane?
