Tution and/or financial aid requirements: not a huge overpricy amount but not too much of a concern

i thin thats pretty much it- any suggestions please??

Boston University, Brown, Emerson, George Washington, Northeastern, UC schools, USC. Something about you just shouts out “California!!” So definitely check out schools like the Claremont schools also. Those are just some to look at.

If 34,000 is too big for you, avoid the huge state schools. They usually have somewhere around 40,000 people on campus at any given moment.

I’ll second the recommendations for GWU and USC. They’re both around 16,000, I believe, which shouldn’t be too huge. I’ll also add Fordham to the list.

Although GWU doesn’t meet the “pretty campus” criterion, I second that place. It’s really, really cool.

Also, yeah, something about you is screaming USC! The campus isn’t half bad (though its neighborhood does put some non-urbanites off, so you do have to visit to see). Both co-valedictorians at my school are going there (turning down Stanford and ND, for example) as well as all the fun people from my school. Just knowing them I know the student body has interesting people in it.

hahah thanks everybody, welp guess i should opt for cali then…but i want to get in lol i hear uc schools are sooo tough, especially for out of state? and usc i know admits a lot of out of state im just not sure if i can get in…
i like state universities, in terms of UNDER grads i mean like under 30,000 would be good for me. i dont think ill notice too much but a smaller school such as usc (a Little bit smaller) would probably be good.

any suggestions on which is easiest to get into?? haha i have pretty mch all requirements just not like amazing sats. so yeah. =)

also, i like u of arizonas campus from what ive seen and i hear its a good like premed school perhaps?? i know its not rated amazing but i think i could get in…

U of A is a common cross-app for those Trojan girls at my school
probably a similarly fun school, and just as tough as some of the UCs I’m sure

speaking of, the UC campuses are just plain tough to get into out of state. I’m not sure if I would recommend trying, but why not if you’re not too tight on cash for application fees. they really are large. UCLA, for example, doesn’t have such a unified student body as a school such as USC. they all have Bruin pride, yeah, but not the kind of depth of traditions, and such a large campus (though it’s not huge like some schools) that you really may never see the west side of campus. USC is more unified than that. really it depends on how much like the city you want it to be.

USC is also more likely to give you aid, I think. the UCs can be stingy even in-state from what I’ve heard!

but yeah U of A is a very desirable school BUT has no water near it… at all… except maybe a few dammed-up lakes etc.

oh ok thanks. yeah i was thinking i might be able to get in somewhere like santa barbara or cruz but i dunno…you seem to like usc- thats good i love the trojans! haha. i just want to think i might have a chance at gettin in there…is there anything you know of your friends had that helped them???
and yeah i should probably visit, ive heard mixed reviews about campus.

lol I guess I like USC because of family and friends who went there… total bias but I think generally people (besides those at UCLA lol) would agree that it’s a good school.

And by all means apply to UCSB/C. totally fun schools (also know cool smart kids going there too) and worth the energy!

you must visit USC if you intend on seriously considering it. really. must. that is because it’s just south west of downtown, in a pretty low-income neighborhood (not bad in itself, might be convenient for poor college students looking for community) that, sadly like every-stinking-where else in L.A. has gang problems. but you will not find a school in a city that doesn’t at least have 2 gangs (just one would be so lame hehe).

but don’t forget to see the party scene south and north of Hollywood, and why not go to UCLA to compare? also SC students often hang out on the westside… it’s the Bruins who go eastside… all these college geopolitics it’s crazy.

oh! corollary: if you like rivalries… L.A. is good for that

yeah i love rivalries for sure. yeah i guess ill just have to plan to visit california haha before have to apply. tahnks for all your help! im definitely considering all of those schools.

Looking at your points, I think Case Western might be worth considering, at it fits most of them well. Specifically:

1) Tons of kids are pre-med at Case, and they have really strong science programs, especially with respect to BME. They also have a top 30 management program, and I would assume a decent communications department.
2) The acceptance rate is somewhere in the 60’s, but it is still a top-40 overall school that doesn’t consider (insofar as I know) location, as it is private.
3) There is a fair bit of work, and you’ll need to be on top of things to do well, but it doesn’t have a cut-throat atmosphere.
4) Personally, I’m not nuts about the facility. But for a school with 4,000 students, it is certainly more than adequate.
5) Case is, at face value, more expensive than most. But it always ranks in the top 30 values, because they have extensive financial and merit aid. One of the main reasons alot of the people I know who went there chose the school was because of this.
6) 4,150 or so undergrads. If that isn’t enough, it is very close to several other colleges.
7) As many will tell you, these ratios are rarely true to form outside of LACs. However, on paper, Case has an 8:1 ratio. When I visited, I sat in on a couple of classes, and the largest had maybe a dozen people. And the faculty seemed, at least in my experience, very willing to sit and talk with students.
8) Co-ed. And, as a girl, you’ll probably enjoy the fact that 60% of the campus is male.
9) I’d say Cleveland is fairly far away.
10) Case fails here big time. It is surrounded by ghetto slums. But there are a few nicer areas off of campus.
11) Case has a Greek system, of which roughly 1/3 of the campus is involved. It is an important but not overbearing part of the school and its social scene.
12) Well, IM sports exist here. And if you want to play, there are some DIII teams, but really, sports is not a forte of most people here, or the school itself.

Note: I say all this as a rising freshman there, who hopes to transfer to Claremont Mckenna.
