Poster gum is provided freely by Yard Ops for freshmen, and I assume by the House staff for upperclassmen. It works okay for posters, but don’t expect to be able to hang up anything heavy, like a mirror.

Do you think that a student can get away with using the command products? They claim to be fully removable w/o damage and I have yet to have any problems with them my personal use.

If it doesn’t show - by which I mean that they’re not visible during room inspection - and don’t damage the wall, then yeah, probably. But you are putting yourself at risk for a fine if you damage the wall or someone particularly nitpicky discovers them.

BTW - tons of people use stuff other than poster gum. It’s just the only official, approved item that you know you won’t get in trouble for using. Use something else, and you’re taking responsibility for it.

BTW, when I google “poster gum”, there is no product out there with that title. I assume that this stuff is equivalent to “mounting putty”. Would that be correct?

@smoda61 - You will not get fined for using “command.” You will not get fined for using tape. You will most likely not get fined for using nails/hot glue/super glue/etc.

Harvard has a lot of policies that seem strict but are rarely if ever enforced. This is one of them.

Sorry, just came back to this thread. Never had a fine all these years with masking tape. Yes, most policies are not enforced, including those that refer to refrigerators and microwaves.
