Posters: How do you pronounce your user name?

Silly question, I know, but when I’m reading posts, I mentally “pronounce” a user name, unless it’s something like dmd77. However, even a new name like lbr6, I hear in my head as “libber-six.” Many of the names are obvious (TheDad, calmom, ariesathena, etc), some not so obvious until you “get it” (Hautbois was one of my favorites; ellenmenope is another). But some are not obvious. For example, does emeraldkity think of herself as a kitty or as a kite. Mentally, I pronounce it as the latter.

My own user name was a mistake on my part. I thought I was entering “digimedia” (as in digital media), but I goofed. In my mind, I still pronounce the soft G, but realize that it looks like I “dig media.”

We’ve had discussions before about the origin of usernames, but not the pronounciation. Or am I the only one that thinks in this way?

Is it “See-Angel” or “Cang-el” or “Cane-jel” or “Can-jel?”

Is it “Jay’s Mom” or “Jasmine?”

Is it “Ms. Tee” or “Misty?”

Is it “ver-ron-wee?”

Even simple names: Does TheDad call himself “Thuh-Dad” or “THEE-Dad?”

And since my wife’s name is Carolyn, I’ve heard it mispronounced many times as Caroline.

Others???

Well, my favorite is momof2inca – I always smile when I see that because my initial reaction is STILL that she has 2 ancient peruvian warriors for children

Mine’s problematic, I know. It’s an old user name that I’ve been using forever. I just automatically type it in when I’m signing up for things because I know I’ll never forget it. It’s pronounced

el – duh – rock – ee

See, already I’ve seen two people in a different way! I thought your name was “Eye-der-ah-chee” and I never noticed the “in-california” connection!

I guess we see what we want to see because mentally I have always been calling you digimedia, and I just now noticed that there was no “i” in your screen name

Some of favs are lefthandofdog (I keep throwing in the word “the” and making reference to the Right Hand of God) I recently realized that my dog lies under the left hand side of my desk. DO you think that it’s a dog thinK?

Curmudgeon (who’s anything but a killjoy)

momof2inca (it took me a while to figure out what it was then I went OHHHH mom of 2 in ca becauseI kept thinking inca)

hey the list can go on

I regret the choice of my user name which I made up on the spot when I impulsively finally registered for CC. I wanted mom in there, since that is what I am, but did not intend to use my name. Really a lack of imagination there. My favorites are Alwaysamom (I wish I thought of that one), the Wildchild one (I wish I thought of that one too!), and I like the ones on Sybbie’s list too. Momof 2inca really threw me for a loop. I was thinking Peru and indian motifs. I never thought of the California connection. Where on earth did Lefthandofdog come from?

pyewacket --is pie-whack-it (pretty obvious). It is the name of the cat who is the “familiar” of the witch in “Bell, Book, and Candle”. Perhaps I will need to cast a spell to get my daughter into the “right” college.

I use “weenie” on everything on line because long ago I was trying to sign up for an email address on hotmail and everything I put in came back as already taken. Meanwhile, my husband was bugging me to come out in the kitchen to help him find the recipe for those little weenie appetizers…and, in exasperation, when I typed that in it was AOK so I took it!

I think my first post on CC was a question to Sopranosmom and others whose daughters were going through the audition process for vocal performance. I wasn’t feeling very creative, so I just went with my daughter’s voice type. If I’d known then about the addictive qualities of CC, I might have spent more than two seconds on selecting a user name.

I always pronounce Susan’s screen name as Susie V. T. (instead of Vermont)…and Angstridden will always be one of my favorite names here.

jamimon, I was talking to my husband about one of your posts just yesterday and I mentioned that you probably chose that particular screen name because you"re a mom who sits at the computer in her jammies. seriously. Sorry. I love your stuff though.

I’ve always pronounced Xiggi as Ziggi. It is a remnant of my days of playing online games.

I thought it was a unique name until I discovered -via google- that there is a Mrs. Xiggi in Greece. Guess what she does? She is a school teacher who used to prepare students for college life!

I, too think of Jamimom at the computer in her jammies…which is where I am and what I am wearing! How naughty at 10:40 am. (you know when my DH calls I will sound breathless from just having walked up the stairs with a giant basket of laundry…lol) I love thinking also of the two little incas in their native dress. I picked mine because I’m wrapped a bit too tight and need to cool it: especially when my kid is around…Thank God for CC!

" picked mine because I’m wrapped a bit too tight and need to cool it: especially when my kid is around’

Ohmigosh, I just figured out what your name is

e- z- duz- it

I am learning so much.

There’s also a purebred dog named Xiggi who has won competitions in the Netherlands:

:)

I always thought of jamimom as “the Mom of Jamie.” As for soozievt, I also pronounce it Soozie Vee Tee.

No Jami’s here except for me, but I do sit at the computer in my jammies. Should have been Jammiemome, but I put little thought into the name. Am getting a google email account set up and have been wracking my brain for a username and am coming up empty. The ideas come after the choice is made. I like pyewatchit, katwithkittens and angstridden which my kids would say fits me to T.

That would be Ms. Tee.

fen-der-girl

:) which would be named after my 1968 fender guitar, and the fact that i am a girl :)

(duh, duh)

oh, mstee, I always thought it was m-i-s-t-y. Mine sounds like “Jim”, which implies I am male, but j-y-m are initials , and I am a “she”.

I loved the names Morgantruce, and Garland. Thought Garland was male for a long time, unimaginable now.

It’s “Sea-angel”, and very boring. Peruvian Mom is definitely the one who kept us in the dark the longest, although Angstridden is one of my favorites, and Curmudg is everyone’s favorite. We have several elves, particularly amongst the younger set, I’ve always wondered why we don’t have a “Slartibartfast” which has always been the nonsense name of choice at the cangel household. ALso not too many Monty P names, although I’ve noticed Monty P is quite popular in the younger set now - everything old is new again.
