Posters: How do you pronounce your user name?

Liz, Inigo is a swashbuckler from “The Princess Bride.” Good movie, not a bad book.
Among other things, he tells the know-it-all who keeps saying “Inconceivable!”, “I do not think that word means what you think it does.” Some very nice bits of stage fencing in one scene. “But I also am not left-handed.”

Garland…I always want you to live in Garland, TX not NJ! I also think of Soozie as a vet.
For the longest time I would see Interesteddad but hear Interstatedad.

I have an uncle in San Antonio if that helps!

Kluge–that’s great, where does that come from?

I think Garland is closer to Dallas, but rellies in San Antonio will suit the purpose!

Mar-eet?

Right?

Whenever I see “achat” I feel like blurting out “god bless you”.

Maybe it means a chat?

“Berurah” is my given Hebrew name which I nearly always use online because it is, miraculously, never taken (unless I’ve signed up somewhere previously and forgotten about it lol)! It is pronounced buh-roo-rah with the accent on the roo. ~berurah

Digi and momof2inca,
Whew, glad I mentioned it- those are too close to chump and schlep! The last part is my son’s nickname - a shortened version of a very long and hard to pronounce last name.(My maiden name was 4 letters and higher up in the alphabet) I wish I would have thought about it more-wasn’t feeling very creative that day.

Apparently, things do not have to make sense in order for me to come up with a pronunciation! It’s a gift, really…

Kang (as in “kangaroo”) - Jell (as in “Jello”) = CANGEL
mental translation: “canker” :::sorry Angel!:::

Dij - eh - media (oh yeah, “digital!”) = DIGMEDIA

Mother - of - two - ancient Peruvians = MOMOF2INCA

Ziggy Pop = XIGGI

Lips - Up = LIZSCHUP
(version II: Lip****z)

Jammin’ - Mom = JAMIMOM
(a female truck driver?)

Slug - butt = SLUGGBUGG
(Ooch, the truth hurts!)

Eel - brrrr - six = Ilbr6
(6 cold eels)

A - French cat = ACHAT

Pie - wicket (something to do with Cricket) = PYEWACKET

TheDad,I love that movie. We watched that over and over many moons ago. So long ago I forgot that line until my son just passed through and reminded me what the line was from.

Cangel,
We love Seaside and Rosemary Beach. It totally changed my husband’s perception of Florida and convinced him that a seaside vacation can almost be as good as a mountain vacation. Haven’t been there for a few years. College costs and a daughter who doesn’t want to go on vacation without her brother have nixed those plans.

I can hardly believe how many of you mispronouce your own names!

Lizschup, I feel your pain with the college costs coming up, this will probably be our last 2 week trip for awhile - it helps to have owner friends to mooch off!! Our offspring love it, they have gone almost every summer since ages 3 and 7. I would say try a long fall weekend, that is the best beach weather we have (as long as you avoid a hurricane!), but coming from Minnesota, travel that far for a long weekend might be tough. Get someone into Emory, and you’ll be close enough to have an excuse.

It’s Mar (as in marrow) right…isn’t it?

“Jrpar” because I was the parent of a junior when I started here - I don’t think you can pronounce this!

Jeez, I feel so pedestrian with my “vanilla” screen name. I guess I just cry out for more creativity.

Ok, so how do you change your screen name?

I picked my user name because I was not thinking imaginatively and because in life I always seem to have been known as Sam’s dad as opposed to someone not connected to him - that is, until he went to college where now no-one knows me at all (but who thought of that?). I guess that’s who I still am, though not necessarily every day. However, reading this thread has caused me to think and to come up with a new user name that represents another facet of me, personally, and that I am likely to adopt at some future time, in another universe since I don’t want to abruptly switch personalities on these boards and confuse others.

I seem to have read somewhere that Ellemenope and Coureur (another good name) are married to each other but I’m not sure that I know which is H and which is W (or for that matter, whether they are of the same or of different genders).

P.S. I have been pronouncing it Mar - i - TAY. One of us must have it right.

Oh I thought achat = “purchase” in french?

Kan-gle (rhymes with wrangle), I cant get C- Angel in no matter how hard I try.

Sluggbugg, you must drive a VW no?

What’s “vanilla” about an advertisement for the University of Maryland?

It’s all in what u c

I could never figure out how to keep old name (sokkermom) from the original board. The new board kept rejecting the name, thus the 1 before it in this life.

Can you guess the sport of choice in our house?
