There are two seniors here in town who’ve been in the local paper this week for a couple of really remarkable achievements. I’m dying, but also hesitating, to post the articles.

The info is public, being in the newspaper and on the web. OTOH, I’m not sure how I’d feel if I were the students’ parents and someone posted an article about my child on a forum like this one, complete with name, photo, and college destination.

I don’t think I’d post information about another student without permission anywhere. Your intentions are good, however it’s really only the right of the student to do this. I wouldn’t even post my own students name and photo. Just because I choose to participate in certain online forums doesn’t mean that he does.

Again, there’s nothing wrong with your intentions. I just wouldn’t do it. I hope you get several responses. People are bound to have different opinions on this.

I would not do it either. It is one thing to be in a public news article and another to post it on an anonymous forum. I have a daughter who has been in various news articles often, including national online publications and so forth. I would never post them here. I would be upset if another member posted the articles about her achievements here, which would identify her to the forum.

I think it would be odd to post something and say, “Look at my kid’s friends!” Yet, people post links about other people’s kids all the time. In my early days of cc (not sure whether I was even a member then), someone posted a story about a kid I know, and it was beyond weird seeing what people said about someone I knew.
