Pot at Carleton

How prevalent is pot at Carleton? Is it easy to buy? I’ve heard meth is the drug of choice in Minnesota, does that mean pot is relatively hard to come by?

It’s there if you’re looking for it. If you’re not, you won’t see much of it unless you have a lot of friends who smoke. I’ve never heard of anyone at Carleton doing anything harder than pot, though that doesn’t mean it never happens.

Pot is fairly easy to come by on campus, but I’ve never heard of meth being “the drug of choice” in Minnesota…ever.

^Haha, same, reesezpiecez. Same.

Pot happens. No more, no less than one would expect on a typical campus anywhere in the US. Meth? Hard drugs? Look elsewhere.

But, Clevelandude, you should already know this. You’ve claimed in other posts to be a senior at Carleton. I think it’s time for you to decide who you are with a bit more consistency.

Two siblings using the same account?

I’m just messin with you guys, I am a senior at Carleton, I just wanted to tick off some of the helicopter parents that use this website :-O

i enjoyed this whole thing from top to bottom. I want to “like” Cleveland Dude’s last comment.

May I ask why? I am a high school senior and I am legitimately considering Carleton, but if you do things like this, it really throws of my ability to take anything seriously on this site. (especially because I already take everything on this site with a grain of salt)

Well if you already take it with a grain of salt then it seems I didn’t really damage anything for you. Let me advise you, the best way to decide if the college is right for you is not to come to websites like this, but to actually visit the campus. There are not enough Carleton students that use this site to give you a true representation of Carleton (it’s mostly helicopter parents and admissions people). So, you’re right to take things on here with a grain of salt.

I have to disagree with Clevelandude’s claim that this board is made up of “mostly helicopter parents and admissions people.” I’ve been around here for a while–at this point, the Carleton forum is the only section of the site I visit–and I’ve found that the most frequent posters are well-informed students and parents who like to answer questions for prospies.

Students like me, 1190, or reesezpiecez103 and parents like Youdon’tsay, Mmomm, and several others I’m probably forgetting have been around for a long time, and any one of us would be a great source of information about Carleton. I seriously doubt that any Carleton admissions officers are posting here (they’ve already got a pretty awesome admissions website to run), and if you knew what it really means to be a helicopter parent, you’d know that they’re too busy controlling their OWN children’s lives to bother with prospective students. Parents on this board have been very cool when prospies raise questions about partying, for instance.

If Cleveland is trying to be a ■■■■■, he’s a very poor one. I’ve yet to see a flame war on this board, and I don’t have any reason to expect that to change.

You’re last post makes him a good ■■■■■.

What about it? I’m not interested in an argument. I was mostly responding to Fluffykino, not the OP.

ohhh okay. The part where you reply. I want to reply to them but if I do I know I’m only playing their game. but since he acknowledged it, is he actually a ■■■■■?

I’ve stuck up for him in other threads where people have pointed out his inconsistencies, so I’m interested in that question too…but I guess only he can answer it. :)

Not trying to be a ■■■■■, just a little joke. There may be some good people on this forum to get information from, but people shouldn’t base their college decision on it. There just aren’t enough students on here to provide a good representation of the school’s culture.

By the way, I don’t know what the accepted definition is, but I consider helicopter parents to be anyone that is too involved with their child’s life. The line where it becomes too involved is not that clear, but I feel like knowing details about your child’s college life and taking the time to report those things to others qualifies you for helicopter parent status. Also, I know that admissions people use this website, as I’ve talked to one about it.

Clevelandude, mflevity, and CrystalJ, thank you for your posts. I have visited Carleton. Three times in fact including an overnight stay as well a class visit. I therefore use this site mainly to see other opinions of Carleton in another environment. You all seem very supportive of prospies, do you think you could chance me? I would appreciate it very much =)

Thank you very much for taking the time to looking this over and giving your opinion! =)

I think you have a good chance - you look like a strong candidate. Obviously no one can say for sure, but you’re definitely a qualified applicant.

Back to the original post - I find it funny, but I do agree that there are lots of helpful Carleton people on here (mflevity, 1190, and myself have been on these boards for 2+ years). Ironically, I actually have worked in admissions, but not enough to know about scores or anything - just basic office work.

I know where to get pot, but as a non-drug user, I’ve never actually seen this on campus. You might say I need to “look around” more, but I sincerely believe that if it’s not your cup of tea you won’t even notice it- plus, why should I look? :P
