Potentially inappropriate essay topic for UCLA?

I’m applying to UCLA this year and must write an essay describing “the world I come from” (some examples include family, school, or community). I’m writing about my aunt’s passing earlier this year and how her kindness inspires me. Is the topic of death too heavy for a college essay? Will adcoms look down on me if I use a topic such as this?

I’m sure for many essay questions students talk about the deceased, especially when referring to individuals who were very significant to us. I’m not sure what you mean by death being “too heavy”, for we have all faced it. Let your essay not be primarily about death, but always let topics reflect yourself and lessons you have learned from said situations.

I somehow don’t see how the subject fits the prompt. Was the aunts influence central in your life, did she raise you? But the world you come from isn’t your aunt’s death, right? It seems that would just be incidental to the story. Why would it be central theme?

And UCLA essay goes for any college essay. And college committee’s don’t look down on people.
