PR Lit

i have the PR 06-06 book for lit. so far, it doesnt really “teach” you anything, it just gives you practice. what ive noticed in the questions is that many of the answer choices are interrelated, in that i can see both of them as proper answers. what can i do to put myself into the right mindset to pick THE right answer, not multiple ones?

an example is for the poem “Madman’s Song” ( [Madman’s Song by Elinor Morton Wylie](<a href=“Not Found”>Madman's Song - Madman's Song Poem by Elinor Morton Wylie) )

the attitude of the author is best described as:

a) openly hostile
b) gently insistent
c) didactic
d) ambivalent
e) disgusted

i narrowed it down to b and c, and ended up picking c. the answer was b. i read the explanation for the answer, and i disagree with it. on the real sat lit, will there be multiple choices that would fit the answer? on the practice, i’m doing horribly (only getting 2-3 right), but the answers are rather similar. also, when i pick one answer over another, PR says that the choice that i chose is “too literal”, but on several other questions, their answer is almost as literal as an answer choice could be.

Well, imo, it’s more of a warning than a teaching sort of poem, and gently insistent is the most specific and pertinent at the same time. Just make sure that your answer is always supported. It’s hard, but pratice and reading answer explanations are the best way to understand how the CB thinks. I went from a 69/70 on my past two PSAT’s to an 800 on my first/last SAT in Critical Reading, simply by forcing myself to stick to the facts and to not pick anything that was not completely supported. There is only ever going to be one answer.
