D says she has problem listening to French, it’s relating to why she did not do as well in her French test. Is there a web site that would help kids practice their listening skill for French or any tv shows. Too bad I don’t live near Santa Monica, otherwise I would sign her up to take class at the Alliance Francaise there. Thanks ahead for any advice.

Radio France Internationale has an excellent internet broadcast, “Le Journal en Francais Facile,” which is good practice for french learners. (most of the news, though, is geared toward the African continent.)

Another good way to practice French listening skills are tapes and CD
s from Champs-Elysees:
A bit pricey, but well-worth it.

This is a link to the French in Action video series. You can watch on line.

My husband has been teaching himself Italian, and he orders dubbed DVDs of favorite movies - now for Italian this involves getting them from Italy, and he may have had to get some special for the DVD player so that it would “read” the DVDs (not sure about that).
But French is much more widely spoken - look on Amazon maybe Amazon Canada for French DVDs.

Cangel, our off-the-shelf DVD player will “read” whatever languages are available on the tracks.

There also are some other sites.

Thank you all so much for listing those links and making those suggestions. I know I wasn’t the one who originally asked, but that should be so helpful for D. She was just recently told that her school will not offer French AP this year as there are only three students (herself included) who have expressed an interest and are eligible to advance forward. D has had French since fourth grade and has really developed a passion for it. She has been very concerned that a year without French might really affect her foreign language when she begins college. I am e-mailing her this link right now. Thanks again! :)

Wonderful, she is listening to these links now. Thank you all for your help.

buy french music…it is the best way I have found to practice french and enjoy it…You can find most of them on Amazon.com…

Also www.skyrock.fr and www.nrj.fr are two online french radio stations. However, they also play a lot of american music. The commentary is very good for comprehension however (if a bit risque) and its easy and free to use.

If she wants to buy CDs I can recommend some if you tell me what style of music she likes.

She can see and hear French TV newscasts here: http://www.tv5.org/TV5Site/info/actualite_internationale.php

Be sure to check your local library for DVD, CDs, tapes, maybe even records. You should be able to find popular TV shows dubbed in French (Simpsons, ER), instructional series, contemporary French music, classic music (Xmas carols) performed in French, French movies and popular movies dubbed in French…and more.

There are also many French-language radio stations (out of Quebec and out of France) that broadcast over the internet. If you go to Groove Music and Spotify: FAQ - Microsoft Support; and search for “France” you’ll get radio stations located in France; search for “French” and you’ll pick up a wider variety.

I’ll second the French in Action series. Fantastique! But maybe a little dated(?)

My kid just informed me that the radio is in French but the music is American(English language). They did not tell me which web site. Just to let you know.

Yep, some of the music is American on the French stations, and some is French. IMHO, makes it more interesting. (I’ve been listening to several different European stations while I get ready for a European trip… Puts you in the right frame of mind if you hear BBC news, for example, before you go to London.)
