Pre-accepted DS/PS

Was anyone pre-accepted to DS/PS? I was told they make the offers after the class matriculated.

I wasn’t personally, but I met a few kids at BDD who were pre-accepted to DS. So obviously, Yale doesn’t just pre-accept kids once the entire class has matriculated…

Unless the policy has been changed, no one is automatically accepted to Perspectives. Acceptance is by application only, and the acceptances are announced during the summer.

Woaah, I’m sorry I’m the new kid. Could you please explain what DP/PS is?

“Likelies” get automatical acceptance into PS.

DS = Directed Studies, Yale’s freshman program for integrated study of Western classics in history, political theory, philosophy, and literature

PS = Perspectives on Science and Engineering, Yale’s freshman program for study of recent findings in science and technology and their social implications

About 50 students are pre-accepted into DS depending on their perceived interest and ability as inferred from their application. This leaves about 75 spots to be assigned to students chosen from those who apply to the program by June 7. As far as I know there is no pre-acceptance to PS and all students are chosen from an applicant pool with the same June 7 deadline.

Anothermom: Was that an automatic acceptance to PS or DS?

As noted in my Post #5, I only know about PS.

Ahhh thanks, Descartesz! :)

I highly doubt that recipients of likely letters automatically are pre-admitted to PS… After all, not all “likelies” are math or science oriented kids.

ahhhmotherland - You are absolutely correct. I was unclear.

Let me rephrase - The academic likely letter for science/math candidates states that these students will be accepted into PS if they choose to enroll at Yale and if they wish to join the PS program.
