pre-med and chemistry

so… pre-med reqs for chemistry are 1 year of general and 1 year of orgo… form the usc catalogue website i only see 1 1 sem. class of gen and 1 of orgo… so what other 2 classes do pre-meds take?

Most likely, you’re only seeing it listed as like 105abL General Chemistry - really it’s two courses 105aL and 105bL. Courses which are very frequently taken in a one year sequence, and have the same catalogue description, are given “ab” designations instead of separate course numbers.

There’s no real difference between courses with “ab” and separate course numbers, except the “b” course usually has the “a” course as a prereq. You can certainly take the “a” course only (if the “b” course is not required") and you can also take the “b” course in a different year as the “a” course - so you theoretically could, say, take the “a” course spring freshman year, and the “b” course fall junior year, assuming you have time to finish any courses which have “b” as a prereq, and the courses are offered at those times.

ahh ok, i get it now! thank you so much
