Hi guys! I stay up at night because I’m pre-med and trying to compete with people who have private tutors and don’t have to work while I’m working 25 hours a week and can’t afford any tutors. I was just wondering, with grade deflation and all, if being pre-med at at BU while working is condusive to getting into medical school. I’m able to work 25 hours a week while volunteering and shadowing in a hospital 8 hours a week. Because of this, my GPA is a 3.5 and only going down because my general requirements are finished. In non-stem classes, I’ve never gotten anything less than an A. In stem classes, it’s usually an A- or B+ unless it is chemistry in which I get a C+ or B-. I would love to do better in my classes but already sleep 3 hours a night so I can’t give anymore. Is there anything I’m missing out on with getting into medical school? Am I in good shape or should I give up before I go into my junior year?
Yes you can get in but you need to make sure you convey your story in your application. Working while going to college is always impressive and can help you get into med school. You’ll still need to maintain a 3.5+ and get solid MCAT scores along with working in the med field as much as possible. Plan on it taking a year or two after college to get accepted, hopefully it won’t.
