Pre-Med at CMU?

Is pre-med at CMU worth it? Are there a lot of opportunities? What are the chances of getting into a good medical school?

Also ask in the pre-med subforum. http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/pre-med-medical-school/

In general, I would consider the following for premed;

  1. Let’s say you end up going to med school. You need a good GPA. You need to be prepared for MCATs. You need access to medical volunteering opportunities. You need to pay for med school.

    So a school like CMU may be tougher to get a good GPA, but should prepare you for MCATs, will have volunteering opportunities, but may end up being expensive (depending on your situation) so you won’t have as much money for med school.

  2. Let’s say you don’t end up going to med school. Many many students who are premed as a freshman don’t end up going to medical school. What major will you pick? What can you do with that if you don’t go to med school?
    CMU should make you strong in your major and be a good school to graduate from.
