Pre-Med chances

I was at a 4 year institution , i have completed 3 years worth of classes. I will not be able to finish due to financial situation. I will have to take the coming year off. I have yet to take Anatomy/phys or physics. My BCM is not that great due to the previously mentioned financial reasons. If I am looking for insight as to what routes are possible. Taking classes at a CC would put my loans on hold for another year which is the current plan

I have some concerns about your plan.

1) If you are a senior, CC classes may not transfer back your 4 year college and do nothing towards fulfilling your degree requirements. Please consult with the dept advising/registrar’s office to make sure any coursework you take will be accepted by your college.

2) While taking CC classes will put your loans on hold, it will also use up your eligibility for federal grants and loans. Make sure that you aren’t damaging your ability to continue to get FA for when you return to finish at your 4 year college.

It might be make more sense not to go to the CC next year and work full time instead so that you have a financial cushion to help you finish your degree. While your loan would go into repayment, you could ask for forbearance or deferment from your lender.

[Deferment and Forbearance | Federal Student Aid](http://studentaid.ed.gov/repay-loans/deferment-forbearance)

3) Pre-reqs taken at a CC, regardless of how good the grades earned, after not-so-great grades at a 4 year college is going to raise red flags on your future application. It will raise concerns about your academic fitness for med school. Do not take your remaining pre-reqs at the CC next year.

If you really want to take coursework next year, you should look into enrolling as a non-degree seeking student at local 4 year. You could work full or part-time to get your finances for final year of college in order and still earn a few credits which might be credited towards your degree completion.
