Pre-Med Course Advice

Is taking 14 credits a semester too little? (including pe) will medical schools look down upon it?
I have a 5 on an AP english exam but I read in an old post that most medical schools require 1 full year of English, and that I would be better off taking both FWS for the fall and spring semester? Because taking another english class (not an FWS) later would probably be harder. What should I do?

Right now my schedule is this:
BIOG 1440 Intro to Physiology 3
BIOG 1610 Ecology and the Environment (I heard I can earn 4 credits or 3?)
CHEM 2070 4
FWS 3
Pe 1
total: 14

and for the spring semester, I planned to take Calc 1 instead of a FWS. But now I’m having second thoughts…?

Help help help please and thank you

medical schools generally do not care about the rigor of courseload. this doesn’t mean you should opt for the “easiest” route possible, but my point is that you needn’t worry about taking 14. they’ll be content as long as you have a solid gpa, just in terms of academics. of course, you have to have clinical experience, some shadowing, etc.

as for ap english credit, each medical schools have different criteria; some will accept ap credit, some will not. it’s up to you to decide which schools you’re interested in and determine if it’s worth taking the ap credit or both fws.

as for spring semester, don’t stress about it too much. you have an entire semester to adjust to your courseload, see your limits, and also consult with your advisor. you ll get a general feel of how to handle yourself and by the end, have a better idea what you want to do.

Thank you  Hopefully the 14 credits will be 15 because there is a writing portion to the ecology class.

But for the FWS, is it necessarily much easier than other English classes? Did you take both FWS?

lol, i wouldn’t worry too much, 14 is honestly fine.

I can’t comment too much on it but from what I’ve heard, FWS’s here are pretty much hit or miss here. i placed out of one due to ap credit and the other one i have yet to take. (i stalled on it my freshman year but had an exceptional case so my advisor’s letting me take in my sophomore year). i would just search and browse around the forums to see peoples’ feedback on it. there’s a lot of threads asking which ones are the good and bad ones.

Oh okay, btw, do you know if taking Calculus 1 in the spring is harder than in the fall? I know it’s a tough class, even though I have taken it in high school, I just didn’t wanna overload first semester.

I took a few upper level English courses. English courses are not necessarily harder than FWS. Another point is that most med schools do NOT require 1 year of English although some do. Some medical schools do not accept writing courses to satisfy their English requirements. Therefore, if you do take a FWS, you should take one through the English department, unless you plan on taking upper div English later on.
