Hello, let me start by saying i was a 3.00 student in high school and I want to take easier classes first to get ready for the college work load. So is it recommended to take math and science first quarter or can I just take a writing class and a psychology class for first quarter. I go to university of Washington by the way. Thanks a whole lot

Well, how are you with math? What science class are you planning to take?

Take around 12 units your first semester I’d say. Do extremely well. You’ll want to start off with a great GPA because getting into medical school is extremely competitive.

College is a lot different than high school. Some people like that college emphasizes test scores over homework. If you feel confident in your study habits, you should try to at least take calculus and/or chemistry your first quarter. But also take it light your first quarter; 12 or 13 units is good. Quarters go a lot faster than semesters, so be prepared.

I know you didn’t ask this, but please don’t lock yourself into premed this early. Med school admissions are extremely competitive, and college isn’t any easier than high school to get good grades in.

That aside, yeah, taking it easy your first term is a good idea. You’ll spend a lot of time adjusting to college life, and some people just can’t keep their grades up while they do that.
