Hiiiii:) alrighty! Well I wanna be a doctor! I’m a jr. In high school. And I live in Texas. I ranked first in my class and should graduate valedictorian! I rodeo, so I would like to go to a rodeo college… That way I could get a great scholarship… Maybe even a full ride;) anyways… Some schools that have offered me scholarships don’t have many respectable pre med options! (Wharton County Jr College & Sam Houston State Uni)I was thinking ATM or tech… But ATM rodeo scholarships top out at 4k a semester leaving me with the option of tech. Would west texas ATM be of equivalent prestige? If I give you a list of colleges can you tell me what would be a good choice as pre med?

Of your choices, Sam looks the best to me. Remember you get the Val scholarship, too, if you keep that rank. That might make A+M or TTU possible.

if you can go to a and m or tech, i’d vote for those. these others are pretty small, and idk about pm connections or advising. juco then one if you need. just my opinion

If you live within 135 miles of El Paso, New Mexico State offers OOS tuition waivers. NMSU has a competitive rodeo team and offers scholarships. There is a horse stabling facility on campus for the rodeo and equestrians teams.

Laramie97, you are already way ahead of the game - versus other high school juniors - in exploring pre-med majors yourself. I have two sons - one went to Tech and the other to Sam Houston. My recommendation for a pre-med major would be Texas Tech. It has several options to be pre-med including a great one via Tech’s Honors College. Having a medical school on campus during your undergraduate years is also a big plus so you can see what med school may be like. And if you change your major from being pre-med (most do), Tech has an incredible variety of other majors to choose - both science related and not. As you start seriously exploring college alternatives, please browse the websites of each college/university you become seriously interested in as you will be able to answer so many questions. For the questions the websites can not answer, feel free to email the Admissions personnel at the college/university and they will be glad to answer them. For example, Texas Tech Admissions has a quick email contact address on their website for questions. You are a potential customer of these colleges/universities as a high school student and they want you to be fully informed.

Can you clarify? Are you seeking rodeo colleges for scholarships? If your goal is scholarships, then will you include colleges that will give you large scholarships for your stats?

What are your test scores?

BTW…you’ll be taking the PSAT in October (be sure to do that), if you do well, you could become a NMF and have free or near free rides to Texas AM or other schools.

I don’t know how much time rodeo takes, but don’t derail your MD plans by taking on an EC that might end up hurting your GPA. Premed prereqs are weeder classes. If Rodeo requires weekends and/or travel for competitions, that could hurt your chances for keeping a high GPA.

College is NOT like high school. I don’t know how much you had to study in HS to maintain your number one spot, but in college, you’ll have to study a lot more. Many A students get to college and their grades fall because their A’s were easier to get in HS.
