My daughter verbally committed to a D-1 school a few months ago. They discussed money and came to an agreement. This school is perfect for her academically, and would have been a slight reach based on SAT scores.

Because of the committment, she did not apply anywhere else and now I am starting to feel nervous about the whole thing… after all, there is nothing in writing. She will sign the NLI in February but won’t hear officially from admissions until mid-March.

I was assured by both the folks at the highschool and the folks at the university that this is how it is done, and there is nothing to worry about, but is there?

The LOI is not official until it is signed.

While rare, I have heard of LOI’s being lifted prior to signing day. But let me repeat this is rare.

I’d relax. I doubt you have anything to worry about. Especialy considering the feedback from the schools

No jitters about school as D2 is already accepted and coach has been in touch with emails and phone calls on a weekly basis. Jitters though because of excitement! The local tv stations will be there as our high school will have five athletes signing on Feb. 4th. I am in charge of ordering the cake for everyone! We will have sandwiches, chips, drinks, cake and beverages available. Each athlete will have clusters of balloons in their school colors and will wear their respective school’s shirts. It is a big celebration. Some will actually sign their NLI in the morning and then go through the ceremony in the afternoon. The school really does a nice job.

strykermom… D2 only applied to this school, also. I do have some misgivings concerning whether she will need more academic rigor but she realizes she needs to make an effort to find what she needs!
