I thought about adding a post to http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/music-major/460187-how-many-music-voice-performance-majors-find-jobs-11.html but decided to start a new thread here.

I know that this site is mainly for those approaching college. Some of us who came at that point just can’t seem to leave! And now there are a few who are done or nearly done with their music degrees. An area I haven’t seen discussed much is that of the pre-professional programs. These are orchestra or chamber music programs that are designed to help graduate performance majors gain experience prior to landing a “real” job. I wasn’t really aware of these programs until my own S neared the end of his formal education.

Admission is much like winning a regular orchestra job - resume, audition, perhaps interview, and are highly competitive. They usually involve some sort of stipend and perhaps other benefits, similar to what might be found in an internship.

I thought I’d post a few of those I’m aware of. Please post others.
