precedent for 3.8+ gpa ucb ucla rejection

is there precedent for 3.8+ gpa applicants to be rejected from ucla and berkeley?(specifically the mechanical engineering kind). the assumption is that these candidates have fulfilled course prerequisites to the best of their ability. since ive pretty much lost my chance at my safety, uc davis, i am now banking on ucla and berkeley.

ps. my gpa is 3.93

you answered ur own question here before even asking it:

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/uc-transfers/877498-oh-my-god-im-f-ked.html</a></p>

Here’s a little known secret about the UCs–you an appeal a rejection, so do so if you don’t get in to your campus of choice. Once-upon-a-time, less than 5% of those turned down filed an appeal.

Also, you need to find out, first, if such a process still exists; it did 15 years ago.

Good luck to you! CAL is a wonderful and stimulating place.

Berkeley admit rate for 3.8-4.0 is 63.3%.

Davis is 90.3% for the same GPA.

UCLA is is 68.7% for the same GPA.

Use statfinder, it’s great.

What classes are you missing specifically?

What about the pecentage get accepted when filing an appeal to UCLA or Berkeley?

very low look at last year’s thread think only one or two got in

OP I’d say it depends on what pre-reqs your missing. If your missing like a physics or math class it would be worse than missing like statics or programming. My school only offers like 1 or 2 engineering reqs besides the core math and physics and I’m assuming some other schools are the same and that those classes aren’t as crucial as the core math and physics.

I’m in the same boat as you but probably missing WAY more pre-reqs (taking them at my school sucks in terms of commute and scheduling so it doesn’t work out well… my JC sucks.) and I’m banking on the fact I met TAG requirements and applied to an opening major to get me in at UCSD (even though IF and it’s a big IF, I get in it will take 3.5-4 years to graduate, going to my local CC’s isn’t so much an option anymore and I’d need to live away from home anyways so the extra tuition cost isn’t percentage wise that big a hurdle.)

Engineering transfer is a pain… if/when I don’t get in it’s going to be really frustrating knowing if I had picked economics or something I could have probably got in anywhere since it’s sooo much easier to get the pre-reqs done.

This happened with me and UCI… I only have Cal now. : (

If the college you attend does not offer your prerequisites, I heard that you are not required to complete them before you transfer to a university.

ive got the core classes done. math up to DE, physics all the way through, and the 2 gen chems. english is obviously done too. programming as well. my problem lies in the fact that i am missing all the engineering sciences(prop of materials, statics, blah blah). I kinda ran out of time to take them since i switched from business to engineering. i lost an entire semesters worth of time.

ps. problem is not resolved, i cannot afford to attend summer school at ucla or davis for that matter. since budget cuts have raped every community college, no one is really offering these courses as well.

I wouldn’t stress so much then, your have all the REQUIRED classes for UCLA done with a GPA above the average admitted. On assist in terms of the engineering sciences it says “Listed below are additional degree requirements for this major that may be met
with community college courses:” so from what I can tell those classes aren’t required for admission but if your JC offers them you can take them.

Seriously… you are in GREAT shape from what I can tell, I would be THRILLED if I had the stats you did.

^^ thanks man. im just all freaked out about this whole davis thing. they require them, so i am more than likely rejected.

I wouldn’t be surprised to see you get into Davis. I mean you have what… 1 or 2 quarters of lower division work left MAX (and not a full time course loads worth, you would still be able to progress with upper division as well). Davis isn’t going to be rejecting too many 3.9 + students with the amount of prep work you have or basically no one would be going there as with those stats they would probably be off to LA or CAL.
