predict my results at top schools!

this thread isn’t going to be overly specific for privacy concerns, but schools I’ve been accepted to so far:
UC Berkeley (early admit/regents), UCLA (likely letter), UCSD, UCSB (regents), UIUC

major: mechanical engineering

objective stats:
GPA: 3.96 UW, 4.0 UW soph-senior
SAT: 2340, single-sitting (770 M, 800 CR, 770 W)
APs: a bunch (not going to specify); 5s on all tests so far
(rigorous courseload at competitive hs)

subjective stats:
-summer internship in lab at top university, summer 2015
-competitive summer program at top university, summer 2016
-presented research at international conference in 2015 & 2016 (research itself isn’t particularly innovative though, so idk if this will give me that great of a benefit? p. basic tbh)
-a bunch of creative writing things that include a leadership position i’ve held for four years (between 2 and 4 years)
-science bowl team, won regionals this year (2 years)
-model united nations, a few awards (4 years)
-school dance team, does well at competitions (3 years); some volunteering for this outside of school as well
-national merit finalist
-minor writing awards (don’t even remember if these are on my app)

(i’ve done other stuff as well, but these are the activities on my common app)

rec letters:
-math teacher: 10/10 (known me for 3 years, absolutely loves me, we talk about everything together)
-history teacher: 8/10 (idk i had her for two classes, but not that close with her–i was the only one who participated though)
-summer program director: 9/10
-counselor: 7/10 (probably not personal at all)

other:
gender: female
school type: large/competitive public
state: CA
financial aid: yes
income bracket: 90k
ethnicity: asian
hooks: lmao that’s funny (i guess woman in engineering??)

whoo PREDICT MY RESULTS:
-johns hopkins (i really liked my supplement)
-mit (deferred ea) (essays for this were not the best bc they were some of the first i wrote oops) (aka well-written but no personality) (my mid-year update had more personality) (good interview though)
-stanford (lmao) (but i think my essays for this were very “me” and quirky–the best essays i wrote for college apps)
-harvard (lmao) (decent essays though? not very quirky/funny, but a good representation of who i am) (also interviewer said i was a “perfect fit” for harvard, whatever that means & if that holds any weight)
-princeton (lmao) (i liked my supplement a lot, it was pretty philosophical and very me)
-harvey mudd (good supplements) (awkward interview)
-columbia (don’t remember my supplements lmao but decent i think?)
-brown (good interview, good essays)
-cornell (essay was p. standard tbh)
-rice (great interview, good essays)

decisions start coming next week!!

Your scores are good… ECs are solid but not necessarily spectacular. (I don’t really know any “competitive” summer programs at universities… I’m pretty sure most of those are just looked at as chances for the college to make some extra cash.) It seems like your main thing is research, so hopefully you explained the magnitude & significance of your research on the app.

I’d say:
Hopkins: Accept/Waitlist
MIT: Reject
Stanford: Reject (if your essays were that “quirky,” though, maybe slightly more likely)
Harvard: Reject
Princeton: Waitlist
Harvey Mudd: Accept
Columbia: Waitlist
Brown: Waitlist
Cornell: Waitlist/Accept
Rice: Accept

Best of luck! Chance me back? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1966406-chance-me-upenn-ed-yale-brown-princeton-etc-will-chance-back-p1.html

i’d think you’d be waitlisted or accepted at mit, jhu, rice, and stanford, and accepted at at least one ivy (if i had to put a name, maybe harvard?).

probably waitlist or reject at harvey mudd, same for columbia.

good luck!

thank you so much @desideratum & @writergirl0316!! (& competitive summer program means <10% acceptance rate, most of the people who go end up at top universities, although i’m not sure if that’s correlation or causation) (it wasn’t rsi though rip) (but tbh my research isn’t that big a deal–i did my projects at the two summer programs and they’re not the kind that would do well in science fairs, which is why i never submitted.)

update: rejected from MIT :frowning: (sadly, they don’t waitlist people who were deferred EA, so I don’t even know how far up the applicant pool I was.) but honestly, I expected it–my MIT application was basic and didn’t have much personality, and a lot of people from my school have gotten in already.

accepted at cornell! bump on predictions LMAO

accepted at jhu and harvey mudd bumpity bump

CONGRATS! I expect waitlist/reject from brown, only cuz u seem SUPER into stem and brown likes people who kinda like a mixture of things (hence, open curriculum). I think u have a shot at Columbia(waitlist/accept) and idk about Harvard or Princeton tbh…

@hungrihippo most of my extracurriculars beyond the research stuff and Science Bowl are actually creative writing things! Guess I wrote this so I sounded like I’m a very STEM kid, but I’m definitely much less of a STEM kid than most people I know. But thank you so much!! Outside of the schools I’ve already been accepted to, Columbia, Princeton, Harvard, and Stanford are the ones that I’m really hoping for.

this is super late, but here are results!!

Hopkins: Accept
MIT: Reject
Stanford: Reject
Harvard: Reject
Princeton: Reject
Harvey Mudd: Accept
Columbia: Waitlist
Brown: Reject
Cornell: Accept (Presidential Research Scholar!)
Rice: Accept

I ended up receiving the Regents’ scholarship at UC Berkeley and will be attending there in the fall.
