Predicted grades to US universities

International student here. Is it okay if I only applied to US universities with my IB predicted grades? My counsellor submitted a junior year transcript that has only predicted grades on it, because they are based on mock exams and just overall what we did in the course and what the teacher thinks we will get in exams (we do not have senior year midterms yet, but I will also get predicted grades, not achieved grades). Do colleges need achieved grades? Since I do not know if we have them. Will they think of my academic performance more poorly?

Yes. If accepted and attending, you will need to send in your actual scores which will be compared to the predicted scores. Too great a variation puts your acceptance at risk

I am not sure I am clear on the question.

If you only have predicted grades, you can apply with just those grades, but will eventually have to submit achieved grades if admitted. In some cases a big disparity could lead to probation or an offer being completely rescinded, so that is a risk to be aware of.

But are you asking if you can apply with only predicted grades even if you have achieved grades, and just not report the achieved grades? I believe the answer would usually be no, that whatever grade report you or your counselor submitted would be required to include all grades, predicted or achieved.

Oh okay, thanks. So as far as I understand, achieved grades are after exams. Because we do have working at grades, but when I asked my university counsellor to give me a junior year transcript she gave me a transcript with just predicted grades. And i sent it to my ib counselor (who is submitting all of the documents) and thats it. Nobody said anything about adding working at grades. You think thats okay?

I had working at grades at junior year, but I didn’t have access to them when applying. So I asked my uni counsellor to send me an official transcript, it was with only predicted grades and then i sent it to the ib counselor (who is submitting all of the docs) and thats it. Nobody said anything. My junior year working at grades were the same as predicted, as far as i remember. Maybe one off. So it really doesn’t have that big of a difference.

Ah, OK. My understanding is working at grades are not in fact final grades, and if they don’t appear on your transcript that should be fine.

It is fine to apply with predicted grades. Actual achieved IB grades are often not available until the summer, well after the US college admissions process has ended. If the achieved grades were significantly worse than the predicted grades, it is possible a school might rescind its offer, but I don’t think that happens very often.

Did you take any of your SL exams? That may relieve some of the pressure.

nope, could not. Our curriculum was designed so that we will take all exams in may. (Most schools do this, unfortunately).

Ah, ours did some of the SL at the end of junior year. Too bad.
