Predictions for 2009

Happy New Year everyone - now is your chance to consult your crystal balls, read your tea leaves, or just guess at what will happen in 2009…I’ll come back with my predictions a little later!

I predict that the economy will get much worse before it gets better. Lots of job losses coming.

I hope I’m wrong.

I predict that it will be very miserable living in Michigan in 2009.

The economy will get worse before it gets back on a level tract. It will be the year of the canceled plastic credit by choice or not. The low to middle class emerges as the most versatile and capable in the downturn and gather political clout in 2009. There will be frauds that dwarf Madoff that come to light in 2009. If you have cash in the bank you will be able to buy a brand new car for $5,000 and a new house for $60,000

Whatever taxes I “save” under President Obama in 2009 I will need (and THEN some) to pay my increases in New York income and school/property taxes. Whoever Governor Patterson chooses to be my new Senator will be ineffective, working more for personal gain than for representing us and our interests, and tuition and other costs for SUNY schools will rise so much that many students will unfortunately need to drop out.

There will be heavy snows deep into March (so much for global warming), and the resulting thaws will cause flooding that will affect the growing season in an already bad economy.

Some major sports teams will consider folding in 2009 due to decreased ticket sales and local support.

The winner of this year’s Super Bowl will come from the 4-6 seeds instead of the 1-3 seeds

I predict my son will actually pay attention this semester, now that football season is over.
