From which subject should I ask for a letter of recommendation if I want to study business/economics? I know I should do Math, but assuming all of my other teachers think of me the same, which subject would be best?
Colleges don’t prefer one teacher over the other for LORs unless they have specific requirements. It looks like you’re applying to Ivies, so the best teacher would be the one that knows you the best. Since you are applying for business/economics, you should ask a math teacher and possibly an economics/social sciences teacher.
I have been fortunate to meet with admissions committee members at some of the most selective schools such as Harvard and Yale. What all of them have shared is that the Letter of Recommendation is one of the most underappreciated elements of the application…and that without at least one very strong letter indicating noteworthy personal characteristics, admissions is unlikely. After residing on a Fellowship selection committee where the applicants are universally strong, I better understand why! The students who ultimately received our highest scores had included recommendations from teachers who indicated the applicants was truly exceptional in some way. I suggest you request a recommendation from the teacher who knows you best and, more important, will be able to write a compelling narrative about your outstanding personal characteristics. For Business/Econ (as opposed to theoretical Physics, for instance), I don’t think the academic subject matters as much as what the teacher can share about you that will set you apart! Just my thoughts…,
